Mechanical Engineer I/II

Ascentec Engineering is hiring a Mechanical Engineer who will be responsible for designing assemblies, fixtures, tooling, and electromechanical systems for manufacturing. The engineer will develop and improve CNC manufacturing processes, including friction stir welding, machining, assembly, and inspection operations. 

The selected engineer will work closely with customers and internal engineering, quality, and production teams to transition new products from concept through process development and production. 

This position is on-site (not remote/not hybrid) and is not eligible for Visa sponsorship or transfer of Visa sponsorship.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Design and prepare detailed manufacturing drawings for end-customer and internal parts and assemblies. 
• Design production fixtures, workholding, tooling, and electromechanical systems. 
• Provide design-for-manufacturability and design-for-assembly feedback to customers and internal engineering teams. 
• Develop, document, validate, and improve CNC manufacturing processes. 
• Develop friction stir welding processes, including weld parameters, tools, fixtures, and process-development trials. 
• Support CNC programming, machine setup, tooling selection, and process optimization. 
• Create manufacturing process flows, setup documentation, work instructions, and quality-control plans. 
• Evaluate new products for manufacturability, technical risk, equipment requirements, process flow, and estimated production effort. 
• Participate in engineering reviews for technically challenging or high-risk projects. 
• Troubleshoot manufacturing problems and implement corrective actions. 
• Identify and implement improvements to quality, cycle time, reliability, and production efficiency. 
• Support the transition of new products from engineering development into production. 
• Manage assigned engineering projects and communicate progress, risks, and results. 
• Work directly with customers, suppliers, and internal teams to resolve technical issues. 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE AND TECHNICAL SKILLS:

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, mechatronics, or a related technical field. 
• High level of proficiency in SolidWorks, including complex part and assembly modeling, manufacturing drawings, and the design of fixtures and tooling. 
• Experience designing parts, fixtures, tooling, or electromechanical systems. 
• Working knowledge of CNC machining, tooling, workholding, and manufacturing-process development. 
• Strong blueprint-reading skills and working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T). 
• Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work across engineering, quality, production, suppliers, and customers. 
• Experience with friction stir welding through academic projects, research, or industry is preferred but not required.

WORKING CONDITIONS: 

• The employee will typically divide time between an office environment and the production floor. 
• The employee may regularly walk, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds. 
• The noise level in the work environment is generally low to moderate.

 COMPENSATION / BENEFITS: 

• $60,000 to $110,000 per year (DOE)
