Mechanical Maintenance Planner/Scheduler

Salary: $80,000-$105,000
Schedule: Monday to Friday 7am to 3:30pm
Location: South Bend, Indiana
WHAT WE WILL EXPECT FROM YOU
The Maintenance Planner is responsible for overseeing the planning and coordination of mechanical maintenance activities within the facility. This position ensures all maintenance work is executed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with organizational goals. The Maintenance Planner works closely with operations, engineering, and maintenance teams to support equipment reliability and optimize plant performance through preventive and predictive maintenance strategies. This position reports directly to the Maintenance Manager.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure all maintenance activities comply with company policies, safety regulations, and industry standards.
- Conduct regular safety audits and ensure maintenance staff follow all safety protocols.
- Plan and schedule mechanical maintenance tasks, including determining safety requirements, labor needs, materials, tools, and timeframes.
- Develop and optimize preventive and predictive maintenance programs to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
- Lead or support troubleshooting efforts and provide technical support to resolve complex issues.
- Collaborate with Engineering and Production teams to align maintenance efforts with operational goals.
- Maintain and manage CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) data including work orders, job plans, standard procedures, and historical records.
- Coordinate material, parts, and labor requisitions for upcoming maintenance work.
- Conduct post-maintenance job reviews to gather feedback and continuously improve job plans.
- Support root cause failure analyses (RCFA) and corrective action implementation.
- Participate in and lead weekly maintenance planning and scheduling meetings.
- Assist with the planning and execution of plant shutdowns and outages.
- Prepare and deliver maintenance reports and performance data to management.
- Provide accurate documentation in support of bid preparation and contractor management.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- 3+ years of hands-on industrial maintenance and manufacturing maintenance planning experience
- The ability to read and understand operating procedures, technical manuals and drawings
- General industrial parts, electrical, mechanical equipment understanding
- Any CMMS system experience preferred
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite including Excel
- Strong time management and organizational skills
- Detail-oriented team player
- Enthusiastic, self-starter, energetic, organized, and service minded
Physical Demands:
- Must wear and maintain company required Personal Protective Equipment including, but not limited to: FR pants/ long-sleeve shirt, safety glasses, hard hat, safety-toe boots, hearing protection, and gloves
- Physically able to perform the following job essential functions, inclusive of but not limited to: crouching, kneeling, bending, walking long distances, lifting/pushing/pulling/carrying up to 50 pounds, work at heights, continuous work in confined spaces, ascend/ descend/ work from: stairs/ladders/scaffolding.
- Must have the ability to work continuously in an environment inclusive of but not limited to: dust, loud noise(s), walk on uneven or slippery surfaces, outdoors, heat/cold, poorly illuminated areas.

South Bend Ethanol, LLC, is the most recent plant acquisition. As a global leader in the renewable energy industry, this will be Verbio’s second US production facility following the successful commissioning of its Nevada, IA plant. The site will be developed over the next three years incorporating Verbio’s advanced engineering and operating technology practices.
