Mechanical Services Shop Supervisor

Job Summary

The Shop Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations, scheduling, and execution of valve, actuator, and related repair activities performed both in the shop and at customer sites. This role provides direct leadership to shop technicians, coordinates resources to meet customer commitments, and ensures all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company quality standards. The Shop Supervisor collaborates closely with the Shop Manager, Repair Planners, Service Coordinators, Account Managers, and other operational teams to drive productivity, quality, and customer satisfaction.

This position may also perform hands-on valve and actuator repair work as needed to support operational requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Leadership & Supervision

• Direct, coach, and support shop technicians to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality work execution.


• Schedule and assign personnel based on workload, priorities, skill sets, and customer delivery requirements.


• Monitor team performance and provide ongoing feedback, training, and development opportunities.


• Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.


• Promote effective communication and collaboration between departments and functional teams.

Production & Operations Management

• Manage daily shop workflow to ensure repair projects are completed on time and within established quality standards.


• Develop and maintain production schedules while adjusting priorities to meet changing customer and business needs.


• Monitor work progress, resource utilization, and productivity levels to identify and resolve bottlenecks.


• Lead discussions related to production status, shop capacity, priorities, and delivery commitments.


• Implement process improvements that enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve overall operational performance.


• Coordinate field service scheduling and resource allocation as assigned to support customer requirements.

Quality & Compliance

• Ensure compliance with National Board quality program requirements and all applicable company standards.


• Verify repairs and related documentation meet established quality requirements.


• Support audits, inspections, and quality initiatives as required.


• Maintain accurate reporting and operational records.

Safety & Housekeeping

• Enforce all company safety policies, procedures, and best practices.


• Conduct regular safety observations and address unsafe conditions or behaviors promptly.


• Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work environment.


• Ensure proper use, maintenance, and accountability of tools, equipment, and shop assets.

Operational Support

• Assist with loading and unloading tools, equipment, and materials for field service activities when necessary.


• Communicate operational challenges, staffing needs, and performance updates to the Shop Manager.


• Support customer-focused initiatives by helping ensure projects are completed accurately and delivered on schedule.


• Perform hands-on repair, assembly, or testing of valves and actuators as business requirements dictate.

Physical Requirements

• Frequently lift, carry, push, or pull materials weighing up to 45 pounds.


• Perform bending, twisting, reaching, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.


• Climb and work from stairs, ladders, scaffolding, and elevated platforms at customer facilities and job sites.


• Safely work at heights, often between 10 and 30 feet and occasionally higher.


• Ability to work in industrial environments and varying weather conditions during field assignments.

Travel Requirements

• Occasional to moderate overnight travel may be required.


• Must be willing and able to perform work at customer facilities, industrial plants, and project sites.

Qualifications

Required

• High school diploma or equivalent.


• Valid driver's license and ability to meet company driving requirements.


• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.


• Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and develop employees in a technical or industrial environment.


• Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.


• Customer-focused mindset with a commitment to quality and service excellence.

Preferred

• Five (5) to seven (7) years of experience in valve, actuator, pump, rotating equipment, or related industrial repair operations.


• Previous supervisory or team leadership experience in a repair shop, manufacturing, service, or industrial environment.


• Experience with production scheduling, workforce planning, and workflow management.


• Knowledge of safety, quality, and continuous improvement principles.
