Media Specialist

These are the essential requirements to serve in the Media Specialist role: 

• Previous experience in a comparable position or in a school environment is preferred.
• Strong ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external partners, including families, supervising teachers, and other Compass staff.
• Experience working with blended, online, personalized, and/or virtual learning schools preferred.
• High School Diploma or equivalent; additional coursework in library technology or educational technology is beneficial.

These are the desired skills to serve in the  Media Specialist role:

• Technical Proficiency: Proficient to advanced skills in Google Workspace, Student Information Systems (SIS), Learning Management Systems (LMS), and library/textbook management software.
• Administrative Accuracy: High attention to detail in data collection, organization, and executing complex administrative tasks such as inventory and expenditure control.
• Operational Knowledge: Understanding of methods, techniques, and procedures for instructional materials and media processing, storage, and distribution.
• Communication: Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form with a diverse community of staff, scholars, and parents.

Essential duties and responsibilities for the  Media Specialist may include:

• Instructional Materials Management: Organize, coordinate, and lead the acquisition, processing, storage, and distribution of all incoming and outgoing print and non-print instructional materials.
• Curriculum Locker Oversight: Manage the curriculum locker to ensure specialized data management, storage, and retrieval systems are maintained for inventory control.
  • Receive used materials for the Curriculum Locker and update inventory records. Discard unusable materials.
• Vendor Interaction: Act as the point of contact for vendors; assist with acquiring quotes, verifying shipments for discrepancies or damages, and processing invoices.
• Support for Staff and Families: Coordinate with supervising teachers and staff to provide resources that support the curriculum; interact with families to facilitate material needs and usage.
• Inventory and Maintenance: Perform annual and ongoing inventory of materials; maintain records of missing or damaged items, and perform minor repairs on instructional materials and equipment.
• Compliance: Apply and abide by all state laws, codes, regulations, and school policies regarding instructional materials.
• Other duties as assigned.

Work Environment:

This is a full-time position based at Compass Charter School's Central Office locations in Agoura Hills (Los Angeles County) and/or Thousand Oaks (Ventura County), California. Employees may be required to work from either office location as directed by their supervisor or the Superintendent & CEO. For positions approved for remote work, the safety, adequacy, and functionality of the designated home office are essential. Employees must obtain prior approval before performing work from any location other than their approved home office or Central Office location. Employees must be able to work a flexible schedule as needed to meet the needs of scholars, Learning Coaches (parents), and staff.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to frequently exert up to 40–50 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, or pull instructional materials, supplies, and equipment.
• Requires mobility to stand, walk, stoop, reach, bend, and manipulate small objects.
• May require sitting, typing, and working at a computer workstation for extended periods of time.

Travel Requirements
Travel throughout the State of California may be required for school-related activities, meetings, training, and events. Employees may also be required to report to other Compass locations as directed. Employees are required to notify Human Resources and obtain review and pre-approval before performing any work in San Francisco or outside the State of California for any period of time.
