Medical Director

Lighthouse Guild is the leading not-for-profit healthcare organization dedicated to addressing and preventing vision loss. Our mission is to provide exceptional services that inspire people who are visually impaired to attain their goals. We provide coordinated care in eye health, vision rehabilitation, behavioral health, and related services. Our Diagnostic & Treatment Center is seeking a part-time Medical Director, working 14 hours per week (2 days), responsible for providing medical direction and oversight, developing and implementing policies and procedures, coordinating care, and providing comprehensive, patient-centered medical care.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Patient Care & Diagnosis: Conduct thorough physical examinations, review medical histories, and diagnose a broad spectrum of illnesses and injuries.


• Preventive Services: Administer vaccinations, order routine screenings (e.g., cancer, cholesterol, blood pressure), and perform annual wellness check-ups.


• Chronic Disease Management: Develop and monitor long-term treatment plans for conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and asthma.


• Care Coordination: Refer patients to specialists when necessary and integrate specialist recommendations into the overall care plan.


• Patient Education: Counsel patients and families on nutrition, lifestyle changes, and disease prevention to empower them in their own health journeys.


• Supervises and assesses professional performance of attending physicians and other members of the medical staff.


• Observes all applicable provisions of the health code of NY State.


• Directs Limited Service Laboratory activities.


• Recommends and assists in forming, maintaining and revising policies and procedures of the Diagnostic and Treatment Center.


• Conducts regular medical staff meetings.


• Coordinates and participates in essential functions of the DTC, including, but not limited to Quality Assurance, Infection Control and Safety.


• Recommends and coordinates improvements in medical care programs and operations.


• Supervises the acquisition and maintenance of credentialing data of the medical staff.


• Maintains professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, in-services, workshops, seminars and other informational sources.


• Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

• Five years’ experience as a practicing physician in an outpatient medical clinic, preferably hospital-based or freestanding diagnostic and treatment center or federally qualified health center.


• MD or DO Degree from accredited institution.


• Active, unrestricted NYS License as Doctor of Medicine.


• Current DEA Certificate.


• Malpractice Insurance.


• Board Certification in Internal Medicine or another specialty.
