Medical External Funding Team Member (Hybrid)

The External Funding Team Member supports the team of Medical Education and External Research Associate Directors (AD’s). This role is responsible for the tactical execution of end-to-end grant and study management and assists in the continuous improvement of Medical Education [Independent Medical Education (IME), Scientific Advancement Grants (SAG), & Quality Improvement Education Grants (QIE)] and External Research [Investigator Initiated Studies (IIS) & External Collaborative Research (ECR)] grants. The incumbent uses knowledge of grants and research and external connections to work with Local Clinical Development and Medical Affairs (CDMA), Legal and other internal partners to process submissions, maximize and continuously improve operational efficiencies/customer satisfaction, and ensure that compliant practices are adhered to.

Compensation Data

The base salary range for this position is $140,000 to $222,000.   The position may be eligible for a role specific discretionary bonus, relocation, and/or other compensation elements.  We continuously review market data and may adjust salary ranges as needed in the future.  Actual compensation will be based on job-related factors such as skills, experience, and qualifications, and other factors permitted by law. Duties & Responsibilities

Process Improvement: 

• Responsible for tactical execution of the Grants and Research activities and capabilities in support of BIPI’s SciComm and CDMA organizations.


• Supports plans to drive the CDMA grants and research agenda by applying a continuous improvement and customer experience mentality to refine processes and operations that support an evolving healthcare market.


• Maintains knowledge and awareness of BI process and industry standards / government regulations that relate to both medical education and external research.

Project Management:

• Supports the project management of grants and research proposals from intake through to final archiving, executes activities to meet appropriate expectations for both internal and external stakeholders regarding process steps through effective communication.


• Coordinates interactions and review meetings between individuals involved in local grants and research processing.


• Identifies process and system barriers that may affect program efficiency and proposes viable customer-oriented solutions.


• Supports ADs in budget planning/tracking and manages the reporting needs for grants and research activities.


• Demonstrates careful communication skills while interacting with grant applicants with specific information needs related to grant decisions.


• Leads study initiation and kick-off calls for studies and serves as a point of contact for investigator along with MAC.


• Takes over IIS (i.e., as main point of contact) upon study initiation.


• Conducts customer training calls to assist customers with navigating grant system.

CDMA Support:

• Prepares, schedules, and assists local grants and research review meetings to ensure efficient conduct in alignment with established processes.


• Accountable for timely and accurate documentation and prompt action following reviews and committee-directed actions, including ensuring the accurate translation of scientific discussions into well-formulated communications to stakeholders.


• Assists training, analysis, reporting and project management in support of CDMA grants and research activities.


• Coordinates process and compliance related training and guidance to CDMA peers and other BI colleagues that interface with BI processes in support of grants and research.


• Supports Annual Planning by collaborating with the SAD/ADs and across TAs to maintain an aligned and consistent approach to grants and research planning.


• Conducts quarterly scientific communications medical education grants review of arbitrary organizations, applicants and grants for the purpose of process improvement and alignment to the SOP.

Compliance:

• Performs all Company business in accordance with all regulations and Company policies summarized in the BIPI SOP and Local Working Instructions.


• Adheres to and implements all aspects of government and healthcare laws, BIPI Policy on Grant Support, and the local SOP for educational grants.


• Demonstrates high ethical and professional standards with all business contacts to maintain BIPI’s excellent reputation within the medical and pharmaceutical community.

Requirements

• Minimum Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution required, preferably in a related scientific or clinical discipline; advanced degree preferred.


• Minimum of two (2) years’ experience related to grants and research operations including documentation and compliance standards or equivalent (i.e., field-based medicine, publications, medical information, project management, clinical operations, etc.) preferred.


• Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally at a franchise and enterprise level and to keep various team members informed for progress at key points.


• Highly developed abilities in influence and working effectively through others.


• Demonstrated customer-centric experience and track record of continuous improvement of processes/experience.


• Demonstrated creative thinking and executional excellence/urgency.


• Possess excellent communication skills.


• Familiarity with internal and external guidelines, including the FDA (21 CFR 312) and ICH guidance relevant to external research; IIS Best Practice guidelines; Independent Medical Education (ACCME); appreciation of Adult Learning theory; PHRMA Guidance and the OIG; Guidance for Pharmaceutical Manufacturers.


• Understanding of or willingness to learn medical education, external research and external connections/awareness/benchmarks which result in continuous improvement of process, better meeting customer needs, or better applicant/collaborator engagement with BI.


• Understanding of or willingness to learn clinical development process, medical affairs functions, product commercialization, and pharmaceutical regulations and regulatory requirements.


• Understanding of workflows, databases, and systems to support grants and research processes.

Ability to:

• Prepare meeting agendas, meeting minutes, and slide decks.


• Provide relevant data or reports for grants and research.


• Process grants and research applications.


• Support clinical trial activities, including study milestone event dates, study recruitment, safety reports (adverse event reconciliation), and health authority documents.


• Manage clinical trial management systems.


• Draft drug supply orders.

Eligibility Requirements:

• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.


• Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required).


• Must be 18 years of age or older.
