Department: Medical Imaging
Shift/schedule: Full Time (40 hrs/wk)
GENERAL SUMMARY
Works under the supervision of the Manager of CT & IR. The Medical Imaging RN's primary job function is to plan, organize, and coordinate the management and delivery of patient care activities while maintaining quality care in accordance with unit policies and procedures. Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
• High School Diploma or successful completion of an equivalent High School Exam Required
• Graduate of an accredited nursing program required
• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred
• Medical Imaging background preferred
Licensure:
• Licensed to practice as an RN in Ohio required
• ACLS and PALS within 1 year of hire required
• Obtain Certification in Radiology Nursing within three years preferred
• BLS within 90 days of hire required
Experience:
• Six months RN experience required.
• Prior knowledge of cardiology, arrhythmias and cardiac anatomy and physiology required
• Capable of learning cross-sectional anatomy required
• Medical Imaging background preferred
• Conscious sedation experience preferred
JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
The following is a summary of the major job duties of this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.
1. Encourages feedback from patients, families, nursing staff, and other hospital staff members regarding perception of the care provided to patients; utilizes feedback to improve patient care practices.
2. Identifies, greets and prepares patients for their procedure.
3. Works with Central Scheduling, provider's office, and nursing personnel to schedule patients.
4. Completes nursing assessment of patients and documents appropriately on patient record.
5. Communications and collaborates with providers and other health team members.
6. Participates in discharge planning process.
7. Evaluates patient's response to plan of care and updates plan of care.
8. Facilitates patient/family teaching as appropriate.
9. Assesses patients for testing, taking into consideration safety and contraindications of testing.
10. Assists physicians with tests/procedures.
11. Responds appropriately to emergency situations.
12. Monitors patients' responses to interventions and reports outcomes.
13. Administers medication and assists the physician during the procedure.
14. Working knowledge of conscious sedation during interventional procedures.
15. Monitors and evaluates patients before, during, and post procedure.
16. Documentation and upkeep of PIXIS unit involving safe handling, use and proper discard of medication.
17. Works with the medical staff to coordinate medical and nursing care management.
18. Plans and schedules staffing to meet patient care needs.
19. Adjusts own schedule in order to complete workload in view of increased patient activity, staffing requirements, or special department activities.
20. Accepts assignments and committee appointments as required.
21. Maintains cognizance of current health care developments in area of specialty and/or responsibility.
22. Pre-cleans, decontaminates and transports contaminated instruments according to policy
23. Takes call during the week, weekends and holidays as assigned.
24. Performs intermediate-level disinfection and/ or high level disinfection per the Instructions for Use (IFU) by the manufacture. This includes ensuring the scopes or probes used within the department are cleaned, disinfected, maintained and stored per the IFU’s.
