Work Arrangement: Onsite 9191533
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8 hours per day
Assignment Length: 12 weeks

Position Summary

The Health Information Management (HIM) Technician will support a temporary Medical Records Purge Project within the hospital's Health Information Management Department.

This is a non-patient-facing position. Contractors will work exclusively within the HIM Department and will not be required to enter patient rooms, provide patient care, perform unit-clerk duties, or assist with patient admissions or discharges.

The primary focus of the position will be reviewing, organizing, processing, and maintaining medical-record information and entering information accurately into Microsoft Excel spreadsheets and applicable record systems.

This position requires strong attention to detail, accuracy, organizational skills, and prior experience using Microsoft Excel for data entry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Health Information Management Department with a large-scale medical records purge and records-management project.
  • Review medical records and documentation to identify and process records according to established project procedures.
  • Enter and maintain information accurately in Microsoft Excel spreadsheets.
  • Organize, sort, track, and maintain paper and/or electronic medical records.
  • Verify information for completeness and accuracy.
  • Maintain accurate logs and tracking spreadsheets related to processed records.
  • Scan, index, file, retrieve, or prepare records as needed.
  • Assist with identifying records that meet established retention or purge criteria.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient and hospital information in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policies.
  • Follow established HIM departmental procedures and project guidelines.
  • Maintain productivity and accuracy while working with a high volume of records.
  • Communicate discrepancies, missing information, or record issues to the appropriate HIM team member.
  • Perform additional clerical, data-entry, and records-management duties related to the project as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience using Microsoft Excel, including entering and maintaining information in spreadsheets.
  • Previous data-entry, records-management, administrative, clerical, or document-processing experience.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work efficiently with a high volume of information.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to follow established procedures and maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive information.
  • Ability to work onsite in Texarkana, TX, Monday through Friday for the duration of the 12-week assignment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working with medical records or within a Health Information Management department.
  • Familiarity with hospital or healthcare environments.
  • Experience using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems.
  • Previous experience with document scanning, indexing, records retention, or records-purge projects.

Healthcare or hospital experience is preferred but is not required.

Important Role Clarification

This assignment is specifically supporting a Medical Records Purge Project within the Health Information Management Department.

Contractors will not:

  • Have direct patient contact.
  • Enter patient rooms.
  • Perform birth certificate processing.
  • Perform Unit Clerk responsibilities.
  • Assist with patient admissions or discharges.
  • Perform discharge planning.
  • Provide clinical or patient-care services.

The primary requirements for success in this position are strong Microsoft Excel skills, accurate data entry, attention to detail, records-management ability, and reliability.
