Medical Science Liaison, Oncology (Southeast)

Serving as a field-based extension of Medical Affairs, the Medical Science Liaison (MSL) represents our client, a late-clinical-stage precision oncology company. The MSLs conduct scientific exchange related to client’s clinical and research programs.

The MSL builds credible, peer-to-peer relationships with investigators, healthcare professionals, and scientific experts across the assigned territory. The role delivers balanced, accurate, and non-promotional scientific information; gathers actionable field insights; and supports launch readiness while maintaining clear separation from promotional activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Scientific Expertise and Exchange
• Maintain current expertise in relevant tumor types, precision oncology, biomarker testing, the evolving treatment landscape, and applicable clinical evidence.
• Conduct balanced scientific exchange with oncology healthcare professionals, investigators, pathologists, and other relevant stakeholders in response to identified educational needs and unsolicited requests.
• Communicate complex clinical and scientific information accurately and in a manner tailored to the stakeholder’s role and level of expertise.
• Represent Medical Affairs at national and regional scientific meetings, including scientific sessions, stakeholder meetings, and compliant congress coverage.
• Territory and Stakeholder Engagement
• Develop and execute a territory medical plan aligned with Medical Affairs strategy, launch-readiness priorities, and documented stakeholder needs.
• Identify and maintain appropriate scientific relationships with external experts across academic centers, community practices, referral networks, and clinical research sites.
• Plan, document, and follow up on medical interactions in accordance with company processes and quality expectations.
• Support advisory boards, scientific education programs, research collaborations, and Investigator-Supported Trials as requested.
• Clinical Development and Launch Readiness
• Partner with Clinical Operations and study sites to understand barriers to patient identification, molecular testing, referral, and clinical-trial enrollment, and to address appropriate scientific or educational needs.
• Provide compliant scientific support to investigators and site staff regarding client clinical studies, protocols, and available patient-facing or site materials.
• Contribute field perspectives to launch-readiness planning, including stakeholder knowledge gaps, testing pathways, institutional processes, and evidence needs.
• Insights and Cross-Functional Collaboration
• Capture and communicate high-quality medical insights, including the context, implications, and potential Medical Affairs action, while protecting confidential and personal information.
• Collaborate with Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, Clinical Operations, Medical Information, Publications, Diagnostics, Market Access, and other functions within approved roles and processes.
• Review medical and scientific materials for accuracy, balance, appropriate substantiation, and consistency with approved review processes.
• Support internal scientific training, medical communications, resource development, and other Medical Affairs projects as assigned.
• Conduct all activities in accordance with company policies and SOPs and applicable legal, regulatory, privacy, and industry requirements governing non-promotional scientific exchange, clinical research support, medical information, and interactions with healthcare professionals and external organizations.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

• Demonstrated understanding of compliant scientific exchange and applicable FDA requirements, industry codes, privacy expectations, and company policies.
• Excellent scientific communication, presentation, relationship-building, project-management, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Ability to synthesize complex information, identify meaningful insights, manage competing priorities, and operate effectively in a growing organization.
• Field-based role with travel up to 60%, including overnight travel for stakeholder meetings, internal meetings, training programs, and medical congresses.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to meet the essential functions of the role, with reasonable accommodation where applicable.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Advanced scientific or clinical degree strongly preferred, such as PharmD, PhD, MD, or DNP. NP, MSN, or PA candidates may be considered with substantial oncology and MSL experience.
• Minimum 3 years of oncology MSL experience and demonstrated success working independently in a field-based role.
• Minimum 5 years of combined clinical, research, or relevant industry experience in oncology.
• Experience in gynecologic oncology and additional experience in breast, lung, or other solid tumors.
• Established scientific relationships across academic and community oncology settings.
• Experience with precision oncology, molecular testing, biomarker-driven clinical development, or launch readiness.
