JOB TITLE: MENTAL HEALTH CARE PROVIDER

DEPARTMENT: Crisis Services 

SUPERVISOR: Manager, Crisis Services

FLSA/TYPE: Non Exempt 

SUPERVISES: N/A

JOB SUMMARY: 

The Mental Health Care Provider (MHCP) is responsible for responding to and/or coordinating a response to all crises during the shifts associated with position. The MHCP provides crisis follow-up services until the crisis is resolved or the person is enrolled into the MH system. In addition, provide hospital liaison activities for all hospitalized people from Pacific County; be responsible for monitoring all LRAs (Least Restrictive Alternative); work with hospitals in providing follow- up services with discharged clients into the community.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITITES:

Follow Willapa Behavioral Health & Wellness Service Excellence Standards / Code of Ethics and Policies and Procedures.

  1. Adhere to rules of confidentiality.
  2. Respect and accommodate a diverse population.
  3. Maintain appropriate boundaries with clients and staff.
  4. Work on-site as necessary or remotely using telehealth technology as determined by management.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Respond to crises within two hours of the initial call. Coordinate crisis response with Designated Crisis Responders (DCR) as needed. Assist clients with developing appropriate crisis/safety plans for mobile crisis staff to follow up in person or by phone after client’s initial crisis.
  2. Provide and coordinate all follow-up services to people seen in crisis either during the day or after hours. Make every effort to stabilize the crisis or facilitate an intake into the mental health system. 
  3. Coordinate with DCR regarding high-risk clients not willing to voluntarily commit to a higher level of care who may possibly be a danger to themselves or others. Maintain a strong working relationship with inpatient mental health/treatment centers for continuity of care.
  4. Participate in clinical, planning and staff meetings as required. 
  5. Complete all documentation according to agency requirements.
  6. Attend professional conferences and workshops as appropriate.
  7. Maintain current mandatory certifications, licenses, and training.
  8. Remain current on WBH communications by email, newsletters, policies, and procedures.

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. For a Mental Health Professional (MHP). A person with a master’s degree or further advanced degree in counseling or one of the social sciences from an accredited college or university. At least two years of experience in direct treatment of persons with mental illness or emotional disturbance, such experience gained under the supervision of a mental health professional. OR For a Mental Health Care Provider (MHCP). Minimum qualifications are A.A. level in a related field with two years of experience in mental health or related fields. OR For a Certified Peer Counselor (CPC), Must be a certified peer counselor and credentialed by DOH to provide services, typically as an Agency Affiliated Counselor, OR an Agency Affiliated Counselor.
  2. Current registration/certification/license.
  3. Develop good relationships and work effectively with the leadership team, crisis staff, medical team, professional and support staff, clients, and community partners. 
  4. Represent the agency in a positive and professional manner.
  5. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, computer proficiency to document in the electronic medical record, and utilize telehealth and Microsoft office suite. 
  6. Excellent customer service with a client focus.
  7. Able to sit, stand and move for long hours at a time and lift to 25 pounds.
  8. A valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle.
  9. Able to drive in daylight, darkness, and typical Northwest weather conditions.
  10. Flexible to fill-in shifts if needed.
  11. Meet the current Washington health care vaccination requirements for health care workers.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Two years’ experience in mental health or related field
  2. Licensed mental health provider or associate: LMHC(A), LPC(A), LMFT(A), LICSW(A), SUDP(T)
