Middle School English Teacher 

A full-time, competitively paid teaching position at a first-rate college preparatory school for boys. 

Boys’ Latin of Philadelphia seeks a Middle School English Teacher charged with developing within students the ability to read critically, interpret logically, and communicate effectively in both written and oral expression. Over their course of study, students will acquire fundamental reading fluency, comprehension, and writing skills as well as a love for reading, writing, and communicating.  To facilitate this learning, the teacher will create opportunities for students to compare and contrast texts from various genres and make connections between literature and the world around them. In class, students will practice a variety of reading strategies, study language deeply (mechanics, vocabulary, and grammar), and explore the craft and structure of writing. The teacher will promote and nurture the education of students by planning and tailoring courses of study; monitoring, assisting with, and correcting academic efforts; and providing a safe environment conducive to learning and character development.

The teacher will perform the following duties:

• Plan, develop, and deliver a college preparatory curriculum that is aligned with PA Common Core standards and best practices. 


• Assess students regularly and use data to drive instruction as well as to provide remediation and enrichment based on individual student need and ability. 


• Communicate students’ progress toward realizing academic goals, partnering with parents and school personnel to provide instructional and emotional support and resources.


• Build a classroom environment that is welcoming, academic, joyful, and safe. 


• Commit to the school’s extended day structure, serving students outside of the regular school day, and teaching in the Saturday School and summer academy programs. 


• Sponsor extracurricular activities as part of the school’s award-winning Leadership Academy.


• Enforce the Student Code of Conduct and serve as a culture keeper of the Boys’ Latin mission.
