Middle School Readiness - Impact Lead II [30 hours/full benefits]

Work Schedule: Part-time, non- exempt; generally scheduled 30 hours a week, Monday – Friday between 8:00 am-7:00 pm with occasional evenings and weekends for field trips and special events.

Position Summary:

Working under the direction of the Site Supervisor, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Monterey County (BGCMC) Middle School Readiness Impact Leader II plays an essential role in helping youth succeed as they directly serve as positive role models, mentors and activity leaders to diverse youth delivering an engaging, age-appropriate and outcome-driven program with specialized focus on youth ages 11-14. Support youth to ultimately achieve on-time grade progression, high school graduation, college/postsecondary readiness and education leading to a livable wage career, healthy lifestyle and engaged citizenship. This position involves flexible hours due to morning programming at school sites and afternoon program at the Monterey site.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Youth Success 

• Foster a safe, positive, fun, and impactful Club environment where 75-100 youth attend daily
• Accepts responsibility as a Role Model/Mentor for Youth and Mandated Reporter
• Implement Boys & Girls Club of America teen programs, and activities that are developmentally appropriate and engaging for teens
• Support the implementation of school day programming in Monterey Bay schools.
• Provide homework support for middle school science, math, technology, literacy, and reading
• Lead college, career preparation, and life skills workshops including college tours
• Lead the implementation of monthly case management for middle school youth
• Demonstrate ability to manage a classroom
• Address youth behavior with a positive discipline approach that is fair, firm, consistent and kind
• Support a culture of high expectations and frequent recognition of youth for their efforts and achievements
• Lead recruitment and enrollment strategies to grow teen participation to meet program goals
• Serve as role model to youth exemplifying the pillars of Good Character & Citizenship
• Serve as a mentor to guide youth through personal and educational challenges
• Demonstrate integrity, sound judgment, respect for others, and a strong commitment to the positive development and well-being of youth
• Model appropriate behavior, professionalism, responsibility, and respectful communication at all times

Program Impact 

• Implement daily activities to ensure alignment with organizational goals, efficiency standards, and quality specifications
• Support membership enrollment and track program attendance
• Engage parents to support youth success
• Support team on special event planning and execution in coordination with Operations
• Identify any safety, maintenance, and technology issues to supervisor and the Operations Department 
• Work with teachers/staff/liaisons as needed to support program efforts
• Protect BGCMC’s solid reputation as a respected, trusted & impactful youth development agency
• Assist social media efforts on planned strategies to build awareness of the teen programs
• Maintains safety and order of program, including field trips and youth services delivered at non-BGCMC locations as well as compliance to policy and standard operating procedures 
• Adhere to safety policies and procedures determined by each site location
• Assist with maintaining inventory, ensure equipment/supplies are in good working order and stewarded for intended use

Collateral Duties

• Provide support as assigned to other departments and/or sites as needed
• Performs other duties as assigned in alignment with fulfilling primary function of position 

Physical Demands

• The ability to lift up to 25 lbs
• The ability to bend, lift, stretch
• Willingness to occasionally travel to various locations in Monterey County to provide program services
• The ability to remain in stationary position including standing or sitting for up to 25% of shift

Education & Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Minimum of one year of experience working with youth between 11 to 14 years old
• Ability to work in a dynamic, high-energy youth friendly environment.
• Keen attention to detail, safety and order.
• Must effectively show the ability to demonstrate classroom management skills.
• Tech savvy, including proficiency in utilizing Microsoft Office Suite, Google Work Space and Internet for maximum productivity.
• Must have reliable transportation 

Highly desirable qualifications: 

• Bi-lingual and biliterate in English and Spanish
• Connectedness and experience working and living in the Monterey Peninsula
• Experience as a youth development professional in the Boys & Girls Club Movement
• Cultural competence, ability to work with a diverse youth and people
• First Aid & CPR Certification

Compensation:

Salary range is $22.03 to $23.15 per hour, and is based on experience.  Paid benefits package at Impact Leader II level consisting of accrual of up to 30 hours paid vacation, 30 hours paid sick leave, plus 40 hours of paid California Healthy Workplace Healthy Family sick leave, medical, vision, dental, life and disability insurance, pension and 403(b) plan investment options. Professional development opportunities are available contingent upon funding and approval. This position is classified as non-exempt and as such is eligible for the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
