Summary:
In collaboration with Assistant Teachers, Behavior Staff, Vocational and Support Staff, Related Service Staff, parents/guardians, and other professionals, the Middle School Special Education Teacher develops and implements individualized academic and behavioral programs for assigned students. This role focuses on creating a structured, engaging, and supportive learning environment that meets the academic, social-emotional, and behavioral needs of middle school students.
What you'll do:
Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for assigned students.
Plan and deliver developmentally appropriate instruction aligned with students' individual academic and behavioral needs.
Select instructional materials, teaching strategies, and interventions appropriate for middle school learners.
Implement educational goals and objectives across required subject areas.
Differentiate instruction based on students' learning styles, abilities, and IEP goals.
Evaluate students' current academic and behavioral functioning and make appropriate program adjustments based on progress.
Prepare quarterly report cards, mid-quarter reports, and IEP progress narratives.
Maintain consistent communication with parents/guardians, PHILLIPS staff, and outside professionals.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to provide coordinated academic, behavioral, and social-emotional support.
Implement individual and group behavior-management programs.
Create a structured classroom environment that promotes engagement, independence, positive relationships, and student success.
Organize classroom materials, furniture, and equipment to maintain a safe and effective learning environment.
Actively supervise students throughout the school day, including assigned bus, transition, playground, and other supervisory duties.
Maintain the classroom budget and accurately report expenditures to the appropriate supervisor.
Participate in team meetings, professional development, and other school activities as required.
What you'll need:
Bachelor's degree required.
Minimum qualifications for a Provisional Certificate in Special Education at the appropriate middle school level or content area.
Experience working with students in special education or a related setting preferred.
Ability to develop and implement IEPs and differentiated instructional strategies.
Ability to support students with emotional, behavioral, and academic needs.
Strong classroom and behavior-management skills.
Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Commitment to creating a compassionate, structured, and respectful learning environment.
Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary special education team.
