Essential Job Duties:

• Fabricates, assembles, alters, repairs, and installs sheet metal articles and equipment, using sheet metal of 10 gauge or below.
• Cuts metal with hand shears, rotary shears, and/or square shears.
• Shapes metal with brake and forming machine.
• Punches or drills holes for rivets, bolts, and screws with center punch, hammer, and/or hand drill.
• Assembles sheet metal parts, brackets, and hangers.
• Bolts, rivets, fits, or files seams, joints, or rough surfaces with grinding wheel or file.
• Makes layouts on sheet metal according to blueprints or specifications.
• Welds various kinds of metals.
• Must be proficient in reading prints and sketches for the fabrication work required of this craft.
• Ensures accurate and efficient replacement of parts and makes repairs and/or adjustments to equipment, installations and/or fixtures.
• Performs functions under direction of line management.
• Responsible for the maintenance of accurate records.
• Must adhere to Safety, Fire, and Security regulations.
• Must be able to work alone or with others as the job requires.
• Responsible for safe operation and proper care of materials, tools, and equipment.
• Responsible for maintaining a knowledge of applicable Federal, State, Department of Energy(DOE), Corporate and Plant rules, regulations, Labor Agreements and Plant-wide operating policies and procedures.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Required to attend and/or successfully complete training classes as determined by the Training and Development Technologies Department, through General Employee Training (Reference DOE Order 426.2), and Management.
• Participates in worker involvement including input to work planning and methods to identify hazards and controls.
• Understands a worker’s right to stop work when they feel their own or other’s personal safety is jeopardized.
• Attends all required safety meetings and training. Offers suggestions on improvements to the work environment.

Skills and Minimum Qualifications:

• Must be able to perform all duties and functions outlined above.
• Must meet initial employment requirements.
• Must be able to read, write, and comprehend applicable written and/or oral instructions.
• Must be physically fit to perform the above job functions as determined by Medical Evaluation.
• Must have successfully completed a four (4) year Pantex approved Apprenticeship which provides experience directly related to the work currently performed by the Sheet Metal Shop, and/or possess a journeyman sheet metal worker certification or five (5) years of relevant experience.
• Must have a valid State Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
• May be required to pass and maintain certification in the Welding Test similar to American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Plate Test and maintain Certification.
• All qualifications, work history, training, and education are to be verified by direct contact with former employers
and/or documented proof. Ability to perform the functions and responsibilities involved will be determined by a
comprehensive interview and background evaluation.

Education:

High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED)

DOE Order 426.2A Requirements

In addition to the above requirements, the applicant must also meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A (i.e., High School diploma, or a DOE O 426.2A alternative).  DOE O 426.2A experience requirements can be satisfied following employment.  In the interim, newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities.   (Ref. DOE O 426.2A)

Functional Requirements:

• Lifting or carrying {less than 51 pounds (or specify # of pounds _40_)
• Straight pulling or pushing (_2_hours/day)
• Reaching above shoulder level
• Repetitive motion of the wrist/forearm
• Walking (_2_hours/day)
• Standing (_2_hours/day)
• Repeated bending at the waist
• Repeated squatting
• Climbing with legs only (stairs)
• Climbing with arms and legs (ladder, etc.)
• Operation of motorized vehicle:
• Normal far vision in at least one eye correctable to 20/40 (20 feet)
• Near vision (must be able to read computer screen, manuscript, book etc, at approximately 13-16 inches from face)
• Depth perception (ability to tell how close or far an object is)
• Ability to distinguish basic colors (red, green, etc.)
• No evidence of current drug or alcohol abuse
• Ability to use small tools
• Ability to perform safety-sensitive duties

Environmental Factors:

• Constant noise (ex: running engines)
• Impact noise (ex. Air hammers)
• Excessive heat
• Excessive cold/chilling
• Environmental dust (silica)
• Asbestos
• Fumes, smoke, gasses
• Solvents and degreasing agents
• Works on slippery or uneven walking surfaces
• Works out of doors
• Ladders or scaffolding
• Confined spaces
• Prolonged or irregular hours
• Machinery with exposed moving parts
• Vibrations
• Isolated work assignments

Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.

 

Requires Human Reliability Program (HRP) certification. If the successful candidate is not currently certified in the HRP, the certification process will be initiated upon assumption of the position. If the successful candidate is currently certified in the HRP, a review for HRP certification in the appropriate category will be performed by the hiring manager and the HRP Management Official, and the certification process in the appropriate category will be initiated upon assumption of the position
