Mortgage Loan Underwriter

At Summit Credit Union, we’re looking for a detail-oriented, people-first Mortgage Loan Underwriter to join our growing team. You’ll play a key role in helping our members achieve their homeownership dreams by underwriting both portfolio and secondary market mortgage loans with accuracy, empathy, and efficiency.

What You’ll Do

• Underwrite mortgage loans in accordance with SCU and investor guidelines.


• Ensure data integrity and complete documentation in all files.


• Support lenders and processors with real-time feedback and expert guidance.


• Collaborate with the Mortgage Processing Department to meet underwriting timelines.


• Maintain knowledge of tools like Desktop Underwriter, Loan Prospector, and WHEDA.


• Contribute to internal audits and compliance efforts.


• Help develop underwriting and program guidelines aligned with credit union strategy.


• Demonstrate empathy, professionalism, and a commitment to excellence in every interaction.

What You Bring

• Associate’s degree in business, finance, banking, or real estate preferred.


• 4+ years of experience in credit analysis, mortgage lending, or secondary market operations (or a Bachelor’s degree in lieu of experience).


• Strong knowledge of mortgage laws and regulations.


• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and intermediate Excel.


• Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
