Lead Multi-Modality Technologist (Diagnostic X-ray, CT, MRI)

The Lead Multi-Modality Technologist provides clinical, technical, and operational leadership across Diagnostic X-ray, CT, and MRI services. This role is responsible for ensuring high-quality imaging services, efficient workflow, regulatory compliance, and staff development while serving as a key liaison between imaging leadership, radiologists, and frontline technologists.

This position is ideal for a seasoned imaging professional who combines deep technical expertise with strong leadership presence, operational insight, and a commitment to excellence in patient care.

Role Overview

Reporting collaboratively to Imaging Leadership and physician partners, the Lead Multi-Modality Technologist oversees day-to-day operations across assigned modalities, ensuring optimal utilization of human, technical, and physical resources. The role balances hands-on clinical expertise with leadership responsibilities, supporting quality assurance, performance improvement, accreditation readiness, and staff competency.

Key Leadership & Operational Responsibilities

  • Provide daily operational oversight for Diagnostic X-ray, CT, and MRI modalities, including staffing coordination and patient scheduling

  • Serve as the clinical and technical authority for assigned modalities, ensuring consistent delivery of high-quality imaging services

  • Collaborate with the Director of Imaging, supervisors, and radiologists on hiring, onboarding, evaluation, and development of technologists

  • Act as the primary liaison between imaging leadership, department chair/designee radiologists, and the Medical Imaging team

  • Lead quality assurance initiatives, exam protocol oversight, and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities

  • Develop, interpret, implement, and maintain modality-specific policies, procedures, and protocols

  • Ensure compliance with Joint Commission, ACR, state, federal, and local regulatory requirements, including radiation tracking and monitoring standards

  • Oversee exam quality and protocol adherence in alignment with ARRT standards and departmental policies

  • Provide ongoing education, mentorship, training, and competency validation for assigned personnel

  • Foster strong, collaborative relationships with physicians, leadership, and interdisciplinary partners

Clinical & Technical Expertise

  • Demonstrates advanced knowledge of human anatomy, disease processes, patient care, positioning, radiographic sciences, radiation protection, and specialized imaging techniques

  • Ensures safe, age-appropriate imaging care for patients across the lifespan—from neonate to geriatric populations

  • Maintains clinical proficiency while supporting department-wide quality and safety initiatives

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Graduate of an AMA-approved Radiologic Technology program

  • Registered in good standing with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)

  • Required certifications: ARRT (R), ARRT (CT); specialty board certification required

  • Current BLS certification (must be maintained)

  • Seven (7) years of modality-specific experience in an acute care setting

  • Prior Lead experience with demonstrated leadership and communication skills

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. to assist and move patients

  • Computer proficiency for data input and retrieval

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ten (10) years of modality-specific experience in an acute care setting

  • ACLS certification
