Position Summary
Music Teachers are passionate about supporting the school's classical mission and helping all students gain knowledge of music. Music Teachers’ primary responsibilities are to:
- Provide instruction in music to scholars in a way that maximizes learning.
- Maintain a “no-excuses,” highly ordered classroom culture where scholars demonstrate respect, responsibility, caring, trustworthiness, fairness, and citizenship.
- Study, practice, and execute lessons that lead scholars to mastery of music content, using our rigorous curriculum.
- Maintain a lesson pace which both ensures comprehension and maximizes students' ability to engage in the activity.
- Teach K-5 music and 6-8 band (band experiences preferred but not required)
- Organize and direct school performances, musicals, or other extracurricular activities
- Conduct rehearsals, sectionals, and performances
- Maintain and manage classroom instruments, sheet music, and equipment
- Organize musical equipment thoughtfully, developing classroom routines to manage materials efficiently with minimal lost activity time.
- Be proactive in matters relating to health and safety.
- Manage student behavior for an effective learning environment.
- Maintain accurate records of student information and assessment data.
- Work cooperatively and professionally with other staff, including attending team and staff meetings.
- Undertake other duties as required.

Qualifications
- 2-3 years of music teaching experience
- Proficiency in woodwind and brass percussion instruments preferred but not required
- Experience teaching band preferred but not required
- Strong knowledge of music theory, history, and performance techniques
- Ability to read, arrange, and conduct music for ensembles
- NYS Teaching Certification strongly preferred
- Alignment to Classical Charter School’s mission and approach
- Excellent work ethic and organizational skills
- Experience teaching in a high performing urban school preferred but not required

Successful candidates Will
- Have experience working in a charter school
- Maintain strong classroom management skills
- Hold certification in Music Education or have a degree in Music
- Show alignment to Classical Charter School’s mission and approach
