Job Summary

The Neurointerventional Surgeon provides specialized neurointerventional services at the Medical Center, delivering direct patient care and contributing to the education of medical students and residents from the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine and other affiliated programs. This role emphasizes collaboration, clinical excellence, and continuous improvement in patient outcomes.

 

Primary Clinical Responsibilities

  • Perform acute and elective neurointerventional procedures including:
    • Aneurysm coiling
    • Vasospasm treatment
    • Acute stroke thrombolysis and embolectomy
    • AVM and tumor embolization
    • Carotid/vertebral angioplasty and stenting
    • Intracranial stenting
    • Dural sinus thrombolysis
    • Temporary balloon occlusion tests
    • Wada testing
    • Diagnostic cerebral and spinal angiograms
  • Provide inpatient and outpatient follow-up care.
  • Participate in neurointerventional on-call coverage.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to assess and select appropriate equipment and technology.
  • Oversee patient admissions and care plans when requested.
  • Conduct consultations and daily rounds.
  • Lead family conferences and interdisciplinary care discussions.
  • Support utilization management and performance improvement initiatives.

 

Educational Responsibilities

Teach and mentor:

  • Medical students, residents, and attending physicians
  • Nursing staff across departments
  • Ancillary staff including technologists
  • Medical personnel from neighboring islands and hospitals

 

Research & Administrative Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement clinical research protocols.
  • Collect and analyze data for publication.
  • Submit grant proposals for research funding.
  • Collaborate on policy development and implementation.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and quality assurance initiatives.
  • Ensure timely and compliant documentation and charge tagging.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • MD or equivalent from an accredited medical school or EC FMG certification.
  • Unrestricted license to practice medicine in Hawaii.
  • Board certified or board eligible in relevant specialty.
  • Fellowship training or equivalent experience in neurointerventional surgery.
  • Active member of QMC Medical Staff with appropriate privileges.
  • Eligible for faculty appointment at University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine.

 

Base salary begins at $ 523,099/year with opportunity for productivity and quality incentives.
