New Grad/Novice Nurse - Full Time


*Shift: Days/Nights/Variable 



  1. Vizient/AACN Nurse Residency Program™ and Residency Orientation will occur twice a year, April and November. New Grads will be hired and required to attend the following residency that is after their start date.

  2. Please include on your resume what your Top 5 Unit of choices you are interested in from the list above. This will help in the interview process to ensure you meet with the according Director. 

  3. Please note not all Units are directly are hiring New Grads. If you are open to any department, please list it on your resume. 


 $ Position may qualify for $4k sign on bonus.


POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/License/Certification: 



  • Must have CA RN License or be scheduled to take the NCLEX and have Interim Permit from the CA Board of Nursing.

  • Must have and maintain current BLS certification prior to hands-on patient care



Experience/Skills: 



  • Individuals should have successful completion of orientation to area which assigned.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals



The Vizient/AACN Nurse Residency Program™ is a year-long residency built upon evidenced-based curriculum. During the program, nurse residents will participate in a series of learning and work experiences that are geared toward transition to a competent professional. At the end of the program, nurse residents will have improved confidence, competence, prioritization, communication skills, and decreased stress levels. The evidenced-based curriculum delivers on three key areas:



  • Leadership

  • Patient safety outcomes

  • Professional development



Units in which New Grads may have the opportunity to be assigned to: 



  • Nursing Float Pool (Rotate through Med/Surg, Telemetry, Post-Partum and Flex-Care)

  • Med/Surg & Pediatric Med/Surg

  • ICU

  • Telemetry

  • Emergency

  • Labor and Delivery

  • Obstetrics/Postpartum

  • NICU 


Note: Departments are not guaranteed to have open positions for New Graduates.


Full Job Description and Requirements:  


PATIENT POPULATION:
The patient population served can be all patients, including geriatric, adult, adolescent, pediatric, and newborn. This also includes services which affect facility staff, physicians, visitors, vendors and the general public.

POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible directly to the assigned Unit Leader. Under general supervision of the assigned R.N. Preceptor, the newly licensed R.N. is assigned patient care activities based upon the individual's learning foundation and their status as a novice. 


Under the direct supervision of an RN or indirect, the Novice R.N is responsible for the identification of needs, treatment or care appropriate to the ages of the patients served. Demonstrates the ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of the patient's needs. Possesses knowledge of growth and development and has an understanding of the range of treatment needed for these patient groups. 


The New Graduate/Novice R.N., under the direct or indirect supervision of an RN, may perform any function previously learned which may include but is not limited to, total body assessments and medication administration. The Novice R.N. will not be assigned individual nursing responsibilities and functions which are beyond the measured competence of their abilities. Responsibilities will be commensurate with the New Graduate's level of practice and competence and within the policies at Sierra View Medical Center (SVMC).


Must be able to work normal/scheduled working hours to include Holidays, call-backs, weeknights, weekends, and on-call. Agrees to participate, as directed, in emergencies and community disasters during scheduled and unscheduled hours. As a designated disaster service worker you are required to assist in times of need pursuant to the California Emergency Services Act.

Ability to calculate medications appropriate to patient population served.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must have basic computer skills.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS:
Must be currently licensed as an RN in California. Must have and maintain current BLS certification within the orientation process, prior to hands-on patient care. Novice nurses will be hired to various departments. Novice nurse will need to obtain certifications based on their hired department requirements as listed below:


* Emergency Department: obtain ACLS and PALS certifications within 6 months of hire/start date. Must have and maintain Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification or obtain within one (1) year of assignment to department.


* Intensive Care Unit: ACLS certification or obtain within six (6) months of assignment to department.


* Labor and Delivery Unit: ACLS ,NRP, EFM within 6 months of assignment to department.


* Medical Surgical: No further certification *


*Medical Surgical/ Pediatric: Maintain ACLS, NRP, and PALS certifications or obtain within six (6) months of assignment.


* Neonatal Intensive Care Unit: NRP must be obtained within the orientation period; prior to assuming own patient care assignment. STABLE certification will be required within 6 months of hire date.


* Nursing Float Pool: ACLS within 6 months of hire, once trained in additional units you will need to obtain need certification for those areas.


* Obstetrics: NRP certification will be required within 6 months of hire


* Telemetry: ACLS certification or obtain within six (6) months of assignment to department.
