Community Resource Specialist

Location: Providence, Rhode Island (Onsite)

The Hire is seeking a compassionate and resourceful Community Resource Specialist for a temporary opportunity with a well-established Rhode Island nonprofit organization.

This position serves as an important point of contact for individuals seeking information, assistance and connections to community resources. The Specialist will communicate with members of the public by phone and through digital channels, assess individual needs and connect people with appropriate programs and services.

Key Responsibilities

• Respond to incoming calls from individuals seeking community resources and assistance


• Assess needs and provide accurate information and appropriate referrals


• Communicate with individuals through phone, text, chat and other available channels


• Conduct follow-up with individuals when appropriate


• Document interactions accurately within internal databases


• Respond to messages and requests for assistance in a timely manner


• Help individuals navigate community programs and available benefits


• Maintain current knowledge of available community resources and services


• Provide compassionate, professional assistance to individuals from a wide range of backgrounds and circumstances


• Participate in ongoing training and team meetings


• Assist with community outreach and educational initiatives as needed


• Provide additional information and referral support during community emergencies when required

The client is seeking someone with 1–3 years of human-services experience; previous helpline or call-center experience is considered a plus.

Qualifications

• 1–3 years of experience in human services, social services, community outreach or a related environment


• Previous call center, helpline, resource-navigation or customer-service experience is a plus


• Strong verbal and written communication skills


• Compassionate and professional approach when assisting individuals who may be experiencing challenging circumstances


• Strong attention to detail and accurate documentation skills


• Comfortable working with databases and Microsoft Office


• Ability to research information and communicate resources clearly


• Sound judgment and problem-solving skills


• Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism


• Bilingual skills are a plus


• Flexibility to provide occasional evening, weekend or holiday coverage if needed
