Job Description - Non-Tenure track instructor of Biology


Description



The Department of Biology and Radiological Sciences at Suffolk University invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track instructor of Biology beginning July 1, 2026. This is a one-year position that is renewable. Faculty responsibilities for this position include teaching lecture and lab courses in the Biology undergraduate major, especially Human Anatomy and Physiology I and II and could include other organismal or health-related courses in the department. The regular teaching workload is 8 course sections per year, typically broken down into 4 course sections per semester. Service to the department including student advising is expected, as is service to the College of Arts & Sciences and University. This is a 10-month on-campus position and the workload is 80% teaching and 20% service.

 

The successful candidate will have a Ph.D in biological sciences or terminal degree in a healthcare field, with demonstrated college/university teaching excellence. They will contribute to a rich tradition of experiential education that prepares our diverse students, 40% of whom are Pell eligible, for careers and civic engagement. We are seeking someone who will have a commitment to inclusive pedagogy and familiarity with methods that enable students across racial, ethnic, socio-economic, and ability groups to reach their maximum potential is a valuable qualification. We are looking for candidates excited about mentoring students, especially first-generation college students. Our department has a commitment to continuous improvement.

 

The Department of Biology and Radiological Sciences offers undergraduate degrees in Biology, Radiation Science, Radiation Therapy, a postbaccalaureate certificate in Radiation Therapy, and a master’s degree in Medical Dosimetry. The Department has a strong commitment to student development by providing high-quality instruction to a diverse student body. Faculty in the Department of Biology and Radiological Science have a range of expertise and perspectives in those fields, including molecular/cellular biology, organismic and evolutionary biology, and cancer care using radiation.

 

A complete submission will include a cover letter, CV, teaching philosophy, diversity statement, and the names of three references. Course evaluations should be submitted as well.
