A Brief Overview
The nuclear medicine technologist must be able to independently perform multiple nuclear medicine procedures of a highly technical nature. This includes quality control, handling radioactive materials, and performing nuclear procedures. This position will cross train for mobile outreach unit.

Experience Qualifications

  • 1 year Experience in nuclear medicine or a related field. Preferred

Licenses and Certifications

  • Licensed Radiology Technologist (LRT) - KSBHA Valid Kansas License or eligible must be obtained. Required
  • Basic Life Support - BLS Required within 90 days of hire.
  • Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist - NMTCB Required or
  • Nuclear Medicine Technology - ARRT Required


What you will do

  • Prepares stock solutions of radiopharmaceutical materials, calculates doses, and administers doses, under direction of Physician. Performs a variety of diagnostic Nuclear Medicine procedures utilizing radioactive materials.
  • Quality control instruments and review calibration data to detect trends indicating malfunction.
  • Understands the theories and principles behind the equipment and tests performed in the Nuclear Medicine/Nuclear Cardiology department. Performs diagnostic studies on patients as prescribed by Physician, using scanners or scintillation cameras to detect radiation emitted and to produce image of organ.
  • Measures radioactivity, using Geiger counters, scalers, and scintillation detectors.
  • Administers therapeutic doses of radiopharmaceuticals under direction of Physician. Follows radiation safety techniques in use and disposal of radioactive materials. Orders, receives, and returns radioactive materials from radiopharmacy.
  • Performs IV puncture, utilizing proper injection techniques while injecting radiopharmaceuticals. Prepare and administer I-131 thyroid therapies.
  • Processes and routes patient charts. Responds to code blue situations.
  • Provides a positive image to customers by creating a friendly atmosphere and placing a high priority on meeting customer needs in a courteous manner.
  • Practices radiation protection techniques (ALARA) to minimize radiation exposure.
  • Orders and stocks supplies, cleans rooms and equipment to maintain work environment.
  • Willingly accepts various work assignments. Is accountable and responsible for own actions/decisions. Provide instruction and technical guidance while training new employees.
  • Contributes to a team atmosphere by demonstrating excellent communication skills, taking initiative to perform needed tasks, and being flexible to go beyond normal expectations to meet the needs of others.
  • Responds to needs and is knowledgeable of appropriate care for school-aged through gerontological patients.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to continuing personal and/or professional development. Maintains CEU’s for certification. Seeks opportunities to improve knowledge base by attending departmental meetings, in services and other educational activities.
  • Call is a requirement of this position.
  • Produces quality studies to meet the needs of physicians and customers.

  • 10% Travel to clinic locations.

Physical Demand Comments:
The employee must be able to lift or move 4 to 5 patients on a daily basis. Ability to help and assist needful patients onto camera pallet or exam table. Must be able to walk and stand for long periods of time. Must be able to express and exchange ideas by means of the written and spoken word. Must be able to walk from area to area within the HSD and between the hospital and clinic.
