Job Description - Nurse Consultant

Freeman Mathis and Gary, LLP is a rapidly growing, national specialty litigation firm seeking an experienced paralegal to join our Las Vegas office. The Nurse Consultant will be responsible for providing their medical knowledge and knowledge of the healthcare systems to the practice of law by evaluating and analyzing medical documentation, case facts, and evidence to support our attorneys and clients in multiple law practice specialties as well as medical malpractice. 


 


The Nurse Consultant will need to utilize critical thinking skills to solve problems, exhibit strong organization skills with attention to detail. The Nurse Consultant will be required to communicate and collaborate well with all levels of the FMG team.

Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Interprets medical language, procedures, and clinical policies to render opinions of the medical issues, health care provided, and resulting outcomes to attorneys and clients

  • Assists attorneys in the preparation and defense of medical issues

  • Reviews, analyzes, and summarizes case files, medical records, and other applicable

  • documents

  • Prepare attorney work product in the forms of medical chronologies, fact summaries, summary analysis, timelines, data tables, and presentations, with relationship to the mechanism of injury, standard of care, causation, and or damages 

  • Performs medical literature searches pertaining to allegations or other key aspects of the case

  • quickly and efficiently to educate and or inform the team of relevant findings 

  • Collaborates with attorneys, paralegals, and legal assistants in preparation for witness interviews, expert conferences, depositions, mediations, and trials

  • Maintain positive relationships with the FMG team, co-counsel, clients, experts, witnesses and vendors                          

  • Maintain accurate billing records and meets FMG’s established expectations of productivity and performance

  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned


 


Education, Experience and Skills



  • Must be a Registered Nurse with a current active license in good standing

  • 7-10 years or more of clinical nursing experience is preferred. Critical Care, Medical Surgical Nursing, Trauma, and or ER experience is a plus

  • Education and experience in legal nurse consulting preferred

  • Must have strong organization, communication, educational, and multitasking skills

  • Must be detailed and have strong critical thinking skills

  • Ability to collaborate with other team members and clients

  • Ability to handle multiple cases simultaneously and meet tight deadlines

  • Must be able to maintain a high level of confidentiality and integrity

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office skills, comfortable with a paperless system. Open to learning other computer based software and applications. Familiarization with various radiology and monitoring software is a plus

  • iManage and Litify experience is a plus


 


Physical Duties


The position is based in a comfortable, climate-controlled office setting with handicap access. The position requires prolonged sitting, standing and computer work. You may occasionally be required to lift up to 10-15 pounds. The ability to consistently hear, understand, listen, and speak to meet the needs and standards of the practice. In addition, the position requires: 



  • The ability to sit upright and use a computer for eight hours or more a day five days a week is an essential duty of this position. 

  • The position often requires dealing with moderate to high stress. The ability to cope with and manage stress is essential. 

  • Typing at least 35 words per minute using both hands.
