Neonatal Intensive Care Unit provides care for more than 1000 infants each year from the Southeast and worldwide, including extremely low birth weight infants and complex congenital conditions.

Schedule:

• Full Time: Monday – Friday, with off shift visibility and on call 24/7 including weekends to support the needs of the unit.

How you will make an impact

• Manage and supervise functions of the assigned patient care area on a 24-hour basis; ensure effective delivery of clinical patient care and compliance with administrative and clinical policies and procedures.


• Participate in development of the clinical area's strategic and operational plans. Actively support and promote a professional practice model that encourages staff participation in collaborative clinical standards using current professional practice trends and data; communicate the unit, department, and organizational mission; and serve as the collective voice and advocate for staff and patients.


• Interface with patients and families to ensure care is consistent with their expectations; ensure active use of the nursing process from pre-admission or admission through discharge and beyond, based on the clinical setting; and serve as a professional role model, mentor, and change agent who supports colleagues through change.


• Ensure a unit-based workforce that is diverse and recognizes the value diversity brings to the workplace. Assure coordination and participation of unit-based staff on department- and organization-wide councils and committees.


• Manage, supervise, and coordinate delivery of patient care for the assigned area on a 24-hour basis; ensure compliance with clinical standards and policies; maintain clinical competencies and provide bedside care as needed; assess, coach, and evaluate staff practice; and develop programs that promote continued clinical development and career satisfaction.


• Maintain required unit records, reports, and statistics; ensure compliance with hospital policies, procedures, objectives, quality control, performance improvement, safety, environmental, and infection-control requirements; communicate requirements and hold staff accountable; and coordinate policies, procedures, and quality activities to improve operational efficiency.


• Oversee personnel actions including hiring, performance appraisals, disciplinary actions, terminations, and related activities. Plan, schedule, organize, distribute, and delegate work; ensure efficient use of personnel, space, and facilities; and maintain accountability for unit inventory, equipment, and supplies.


• Coordinate nursing activities with other hospital personnel; ensure orders, treatments, plans of care, clinical pathways, and documentation support patient care and recovery; collaborate with the Director of Clinical Operations on fiscal requirements and budget recommendations; monitor resource use; develop action plans for budget and resource efficiency and satisfaction with care delivery; and perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

What you will need

• Bachelor's degree in Nursing is required. Master's degree in Nursing strongly preferred.


• Three years of nursing experience is required.


• Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina.


• BCLS certification required.
