Job Description:
Reporting to the Associate Chief Nursing Officer, the Director of Nursing is a key member of the nursing leadership team responsible for advancing clinical excellence, operational performance, and strategic growth across the organization. This highly visible leadership role partners closely with nursing, physician, and operational leaders to shape the future of patient care while fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability.
The Director provides oversight and direction for nursing practice, professional development, quality outcomes, patient experience, workforce engagement, and evidence-based care delivery. Working alongside Service Line Nurse Managers, Clinical Managers, Vice Presidents, and executive leadership, this individual will help drive organizational priorities while ensuring the highest standards of patient care and safety.

Key Responsibilities
Lead clinical, operational, and financial performance across surgical and procedural services, ensuring exceptional patient outcomes, safety, and experience.
Provide strategic and operational leadership for nursing and multidisciplinary teams, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and professional growth.
Partner with physicians, nursing leaders, and hospital leadership to drive quality, efficiency, patient access, and service line growth.
Oversee departmental budgeting, workforce planning, recruitment, retention, and resource management.
Lead performance improvement initiatives using data, evidence-based practice, and industry best practices to enhance care delivery and operational excellence.
Ensure compliance with all regulatory, accreditation, and patient safety standards, including Joint Commission, DPH, CMS, and professional practice guidelines.
Champion innovation and change management initiatives that improve patient care, workflow, and team engagement.
Develop and mentor future nurse leaders while supporting shared governance and professional development.
Leverage technology, analytics, and benchmarking data to inform decision-making and drive organizational goals.
Serve as a visible and approachable leader who builds strong relationships across departments and promotes a positive team culture.

Proven experience leading complex clinical operations and multidisciplinary teams.
Strong financial, operational, and strategic planning skills.
Ability to build strong partnerships with physicians and executive leadership.
Passion for developing people, improving patient care, and driving organizational performance.
Excellent communication, relationship-building, and change management skills.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: BSN required with knowledge of nursing practices, theories, management and research, basic statistics, and health-care legislation. MSN preferred.
Licensure, Certification, Registration: Current Commonwealth of Massachusetts license to practice as a Registered Nurse required
Qualifications & Leadership Profile
Demonstrated success leading nursing operations, clinical teams, and complex healthcare environments.
Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills with the ability to effectively partner with physicians, nursing leaders, executives, and multidisciplinary teams.
Strategic thinker with strong analytical skills and experience using data to drive operational, financial, and clinical performance.
Proven ability to lead change, improve processes, and implement innovative solutions that enhance patient care and operational efficiency.
Approximately 7–10 years of progressive healthcare leadership experience, including 5–7 years in nursing management or director-level roles.
Schedule & Commitment
On-call responsibilities required
Weekend coverage as needed
No routine shift rotation
Pay Range:
$170,000.00 USD - $220,000.00 USDThe pay range listed for this position is the annual base salary range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law.
