OB Director (RN) Registered Nurse

Job Description - OB Director (RN) Registered Nurse

OB Director (RN)

Full-Time | 1.0 FTE | Monday–Friday, Day Shift | Salary/Singing bonus | Exempt

The Opportunity

An established acute care hospital in Michigan's Upper Peninsula is seeking an OB Director (RN) to lead its family birthing center. This is a director-level role reporting directly to the Chief Nursing Officer, with full ownership of a dedicated OB team's clinical quality, staff development, and day-to-day operations. You are stepping into a facility recognized for safety and quality — Highest Safety Grade by the Leapfrog Group, Top 100 Rural and Community Hospital by the Chartis Center for Rural Health, and a Level I Maternal Care and Nursery designation — where the work you do as a director will have direct, visible impact on outcomes for mothers and babies across the region.

A sign-on bonus is available to qualified applicants.

The Role

As OB Director, you lead with both clinical and operational authority. Your scope includes:

  • Clinical oversight of Labor and Delivery, nursery, and the broader OB unit using the nursing process

  • Identifying and resolving issues affecting clinical service delivery

  • Leading performance improvement studies and implementing PI initiatives

  • Serving as the primary resource for staff and external contacts on patient care, patient flow, and clinical standards

  • Monitoring departmental compliance with accreditation, regulatory, and Joint Commission requirements

  • Coordinating staff scheduling, education and development activities, and performance evaluations

  • Directing patient education needs specific to Labor and Delivery

This is a Monday–Friday, 8-hour day schedule. The role is fully on-site.

What You Bring

**Required:**

  • Associate's Degree in Nursing from an accredited program (Bachelor's preferred)

  • Active Michigan RN license

  • Labor and Delivery clinical experience

  • BLS-HCP certification

**Preferred:**

  • 4 years of Labor and Delivery experience

  • 2 years of healthcare leadership experience

  • NRP, AWHONN-EFM, AWHONN-POEP, and STABLE certifications (current or achievable within one year)

*Note for out-of-state candidates: Michigan is not a compact license state, but RN endorsement with fast-track temporary licensure through the Michigan Board of Nursing typically takes 4–8 weeks and is a well-established pathway.*

What We Offer

  • **Sign-on Bonus:** $5,000 to qualified applicants

  • **Compensation:** Competitive and negotiable based on experience

  • **Benefits:** Multiple tiers of medical, dental, and vision coverage

  • **Financial Protection:** Life, accident, critical illness, and hospital indemnity insurance; short- and long-term disability; paid family leave; paid time off

  • **Retirement:** 401(k) with company match

  • **Career and Education:** Tuition assistance for higher education and certifications, loan assistance

  • **Well-being Programs:** Free gym memberships, virtual care, mental health services, and employee discount programs

  • **Professional Development:** Ongoing learning and advancement pathways

Why Michigan's Upper Peninsula

The Upper Peninsula is not a compromise — it's a deliberate choice. The Keweenaw Peninsula sits on the southern edge of Lake Superior, and the landscape here is genuinely unlike most of the country: dense hardwood forests, copper-tinged shoreline, trails that stretch for miles without a crowd. Winters are deep and real, and the people who choose to live here tend to stay. Michigan Tech anchors the local community with intellectual energy and a diverse population that punches well above the region's size. The pace is human-scale, the commute is minimal, and the connection to the outdoors is immediate.

About the Organization

This is a 36-bed acute care hospital that has served the western Upper Peninsula of Michigan for over 128 years. It supports a multispecialty medical community with more than 40 physicians and a broad range of allied health professionals. The facility holds accreditation as a Chest Pain Center, Silver Plus Award recognition for Stroke Care, Level III trauma center designation, and a Highest Safety Grade from the Leapfrog Group. Services span emergency medicine, ICU, a family birthing center, oncology, surgical services including robotics, rehabilitation, and a comprehensive imaging suite — all within one campus. The OB Director joins a leadership team that is actively investing in staff development and quality outcomes.
