The incumbent shall be responsible for providing a full range of Occupational Therapy services including assessment, treatment planning and therapeutic interventions in an interdisciplinary environment consistent with the position's qualifications, professional practices and ethical standards.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assesses patient 's ability to safely and effectively perform independent living skills while designing the appropriate treatment plan.


• Implements the treatment plan and monitors patient progress.


• Educates the patient and family/caregiver about patient deficits and educates and facilitates a safe discharge with continued therapy measures.


• Helps implement continuity of care by participating in discharge planning so patient receives adequate treatment upon discharge.


• Maintains appropriate documentation that details the patient's response to therapy and the need for skilled intervention as outlined by regulatory bodies.


• Evaluation of patient based on physician order as well as the evaluation of ongoing and final effectiveness of treatment.


• Conducts initial assessments and completes within 24 hours after admission.


• Provides age-appropriate modalities and therapeutics interventions directly to patient as prescribed by physician, and in accordance with established policies and procedures.


• Provides educational assistance to patients, families, students, other hospital personnel and to the general public.


• Communicate and demonstrate a professional image/attitude for patients, families, clients, coworkers and others


• Participates in the performance improvement activities of the unit or department.


• Reads and initials all department memos and meeting minutes.


• Attends all mandatory Hospital-wide Education seminars.


• Contributes to the delivery of cost-effective care by utilizing resources appropriately and maintaining equipment in order to prolong working life


• Performs all other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

• High school graduate or equivalent; additional college training preferred


• 1 year healthcare experience preferred

EDUCATION AND TRAINING:

• Graduate of an Occupational Therapy Program approved by the CAHEA of the AMA in collaboration with the AOTA.

LICENSING/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION:

• Holds current state licensure or eligible for permanent license within 6 months of hire.

1. EXPERIENCE:

• Experience in working with an adult and geriatric population. Education/experience with rehabilitation and / or a physically challenged population is preferred.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Ability to lift/transfer patients and equipment.


• Ability to perform frequent and prolonged bending, stooping, crouching, walking and standing.


• Ability to communicate effectively and empathetically with patients, families, and coworkers. Time management, clinical reasoning, screening and assessment skills emphasized.
