Job Description - Oiler - Highway Heavy Construction

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform daily fueling, greasing, and lubrication of heavy construction equipment.
  • Conduct pre-operation and post-operation inspections on equipment.
  • Check and maintain fluid levels including engine oil, hydraulic oil, coolant, transmission fluid, and fuel.
  • Inspect equipment for leaks, excessive wear, damage, and potential safety hazards.
  • Report mechanical issues and maintenance needs to equipment managers and mechanics.
  • Assist field mechanics with repairs and preventative maintenance activities.
  • Maintain accurate service records and equipment inspection documentation.
  • Operate service trucks equipped with fueling, lubrication, and maintenance tools.
  • Monitor tire, track, and undercarriage conditions.
  • Keep equipment clean and ensure machines are properly parked and secured.
  • Maintain inventory of fuel, lubricants, filters, and service supplies.
  • Support equipment mobilization and setup as needed.
  • Follow all company, OSHA, DOT, and project-specific safety requirements.
  • Participate in daily safety meetings and toolbox talks.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Experience servicing heavy construction equipment preferred.
  • Knowledge of lubrication systems, fuel systems, hydraulic systems, and preventative maintenance practices.
  • Ability to identify mechanical problems and communicate them effectively.
  • Valid driver's license required; CDL preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Basic computer or mobile device skills for maintenance reporting preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to climb, crawl, kneel, bend, and work around heavy equipment.
  • Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to work extended hours, weekends, and travel as project needs require.

Safety Requirements

  • Comply with all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Wear required PPE at all times.
  • Participate in safety training programs.
  • Immediately report unsafe conditions, accidents, or equipment defects.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.

Preferred Experience

  • 1–3 years of heavy highway or civil construction equipment maintenance experience.
  • Experience working with Caterpillar, and Deere, or similar construction equipment.
  • Knowledge of preventative maintenance scheduling and equipment inspection programs.
