Job Description - On-Site Patient Advocate

This position allows you to grow and learn the complexities of determining eligibility for individuals and families who need your help. The WellFund will train you and prepare you to be your best to help support populations in need. You will learn state and federal coverage options as well as private insurance options so you may qualify those who need help the most. For years The WellFund has created some of the most knowledge, compassionate and skilled Patient Advocates in the states of Illinois, Kentucky and Indiana and we are looking to grow our team.   

  

Essential Duties of the Position

  • Willing to learn application processes determined by state and federal programs 
  • Expertise in organization and administrative work
  • Communicate positively with clients
  • Ability to Navigate through several systems including hospital systems and state systems 
  • Work independently and must be multi-task oriented
  • Team player attitude
  • Collect and review patient information to determine patient’s eligibility
  • Prepare documents and reviews them for accuracy and completeness 
  • Completes various insurance applications after determining eligibility
  • Develops and retains professional relationship with The WellFund staff and Hospital client staff 
  • Maintains confidentiality at all times (i.e. PHI and HIPAA)
  • Willing to go the extra mile for those who need your help 
  • Eagerness to learn new and complicated tasks
  • Exemplifies the Mission/Vision/Core Values of The WellFund in all personal and professional behavior and is a role model to      all associates
  • Collaborates with manager to identify own learning needs and set goals using available resources to meet these needs/goals
  • Maintains working knowledge of departmental/hospital policies and procedures through participation and by reading updates and other provided communication
  • Works in collaboration with other departmental associates, as well as other hospital associates supporting their efforts through teamwork and the acceptance of additional assignments

  • Computer proficiency skills are required
  • Ability to learn multiple databases
  • Ability to multi-task (speaking on the phone and typing)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, changing environment
  • High school diploma or equivalency
  • Good mathematical reasoning and computational skills
  • Ability to work with others on your team to complete a task
  • Ability to perform job functions within structured time frames

Responsibilities of the Position

Preferred Requirements of the Position

  • One year of experience as a Patient Advocate or an equivalency of training and experience combined
  • Considerable knowledge of Medicaid programs, specifically Illinois 
  • Considerable knowledge of the Federal Marketplace – willingness to obtain Health Insurance License 
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret rules, regulations and procedures
  • Ability to communicate with clients/applicants, the public at large, and public officials to obtain data, and to explain and      interpret rules, regulations and procedures
  • Must have working knowledge of HIPAA and Red Rule regulations

Schedule: Monday- Friday 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Location: Onsite at Heartland Regional Medical Center

Salary Description: $15.00 - $19.00 per hour based on experience
