PCOM is seeking a qualified individual at the Assistant or Associate Professor level to educate osteopathic medical students in Physiology. We are committed to preparing professionals for the dynamic landscape of healthcare, and we are seeking a highly motivated individual with expertise in Physiology to join our team. This faculty member will be expected to contribute to the college's commitment to advance knowledge and intellectual growth through teaching, to engage in scholarly activity related to medical education and research, and to support the well-being of the community through leadership and service. In addition, they will develop professional relationships with students for academic and career advisement. All faculty contribute to PCOM’s mission through active participation on institutional and departmental committees and in other activities for the institution.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Teaching:  70%

  • Participate in the collaborative development and delivery of the 2-year pre-clerkship medical school curriculum to teach and assess students broadly in the areas of human Physiology and Pathophysiology within system-based courses.
  • Participate in course administration and instruction for the preclinical phase of the medical school curriculum.
  • Collaborate with basic and clinical science educators to coordinate the horizontal and vertical integration of Physiology/Pathophysiology within system-based courses.
  • Provide formative and summative assessment of medical student performance and actively contribute to creating educationally-appropriate assessments.
  • Provide individual support, feedback and guidance to medical students for academic and curricular matters.
  • Implement effective remediation experiences for students when needed.
  • Develop and utilize a variety of teaching methods to aid in student learning including clinical case-based instruction, facilitation of small- and large-group discussion, lecture, demonstration, simulation and team-based learning.
  • Support technological platforms to deliver and link course content, activities and assessments.
  • Work collaboratively with course directors, curriculum committee, faculty and administrators to achieve the educational program goals, objectives and standards set by the osteopathic medical school program.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and adhere to institutional policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Service: 15%

  • Serve the academic community through participation in institutional governance and departmental committees as negotiated and assigned.

Scholarly activity/research: 15%

  • Engagement in the advancement of scientific and medical knowledge through scholarly activities and research is encouraged, but not required.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

*Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. and pass a criminal background check

Education

  • A terminal or equivalent degree in Physiology, Pathophysiology or a closely related discipline is required, e. g. PhD, DO or MD.

Experience

  • Experience in teaching Physiology or Pathophysiology is required.
  • Experience developing and delivering a medical school curriculum.
  • Experience with college/university personnel, policies, procedures and current trends in higher education.
  • Experience with active learning methods such as small- and large-group formats, team-based and problem-based learning is preferred.
  • Experience in a collaborative approach to education is preferred.
  • Evidence of successful collaboration and interdisciplinary work.

Compensation will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience, education, and the responsibilities of the role.

The referenced salary range is based on PCOM good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level.
