Description

The Extractor Operator is responsible for safely operating truck‑mounted extractor equipment, supporting heat exchanger bundle extractions, and performing both heavy and light rigging tasks within an industrial work environment. This role requires strong mechanical aptitude, the ability to follow strict safety protocols, and comprehensive knowledge of rigging practices, heat exchanger types, and equipment operation standards. The operator must maintain a clean safety and driving record, comply with JVIC/Zachry and DOT requirements, and uphold the highest standards of professionalism while maintaining accurate work documentation and adhering to all safety regulations.



Responsibilities

Responsibilities 

  • Observe load hookups and assess load safety before movement.
  • Operate equipment based on written, verbal, or hand‑signal instructions.
  • Regulate equipment speed, direction, and hoist movement safely and accurately.
  • Clean, maintain, and inspect equipment and hoisting mechanisms.
  • Report equipment defects or malfunctions to supervision.
  • Use correct crane and rigging hand signals.
  • Perform heavy and light rigging tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Operate truck‑mounted extractor equipment to remove bundles from exchangers.
  • Identify different types of heat exchangers.
  • Follow proper crane hand signals and bundle‑handling procedures.
  • Maintain all necessary job paperwork, including work permits, hot‑work permits, and unit‑entry permits.
  • Follow JVIC Safety Policies and OSHA/ANSI standards.
  • Select proper equipment for each job and ensure safe equipment setup.
  • Work extended hours, nights, and overtime when required.

Qualifications

Qualifications 

  • Clean safety record.
  • Drug free; must comply with all JVIC drug‑testing requirements (pre‑employment, random, for‑cause, post‑accident).
  • Pass a background check.
  • Pass DOT physical and drug test.
  • Clean driving record (DMV).
  • CDL Class A with DOT certification for cross‑country driving.
  • At least one JVIC craft certification (aerial lift, forklift, drott, variable‑reach forklift).
  • Safety Council training: site‑specific, Basic Plus, and 19JVI.
  • Minimum five (5) years of documented petro‑chemical experience.
  • Experience with heavy rigging and hand signals.
  • Ability to read load charts, center‑of‑gravity charts, and choker charts.
  • Ability to read, write, understand, and speak English fluently.
  • Ability to use various tools required for the job.
  • Good eyesight (corrective lenses acceptable).
  • Ability to stand for long periods and work in restricted or difficult‑access areas.
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl as needed.
  • Strong manual dexterity and ability to grasp and manipulate objects.
  • Ability to work within precise limits and accuracy standards.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to maintain positive working relationships.
  • Ability to judge distances and slopes accurately.
  • Ability to make decisions based on verifiable standards.
  • Ability to flag cranes and operators.
  • Ability to choose appropriate chokers, shackles, and rigging gear.
  • Knowledge of truck‑mounted, aerial, and crawler equipment.
