Minimum Qualifications:
A high school diploma and two years of post-high school experience in wildlife, fisheries, environmental, ecological or related agriculture or construction is required.


Vocational training or an Associate’s degree in wildlife, fisheries, environmental, ecological or related agriculture or construction from an accredited school or college may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience. 



Requirements:
Employment in this position is contingent upon a satisfactory Level 1 background check at no cost to the candidate.
 


This position will be expected to work on weekends and some holidays.


 


Employee needs to be able to work outside in adverse weather conditions, including extreme heat and humidity. Employee needs to be able to stoop, climb, squat, push, pull, crawl or bend on a frequent basis.

Position Overview and Responsibilities:...


FWC’s Fisheries Dependent Monitoring is seeking three OPS Fish & Wildlife Technicians to assist with the execution of a camera-based monitoring project to estimate reef fish discards. The individuals will be responsible for coordinating with private anglers to install camera surveillance systems on their vessels, maintenance of camera surveillance systems while deployed, and reviewing the video footage collected from participant fishing trips. Essential duties include coordinating system installation and maintenance with participating anglers, following strict protocols for video review, data entry and all associated data QA/QC. Individuals will be responsible for identifying fish species in camera footage. The position will require travel in the individual’s personal vehicle, reimbursable at the applicable mileage rate. This position will require the candidate to work long hours, as well as on weekends and holidays sometimes under adverse weather conditions. The incumbents must possess the ability to troubleshoot small, portable electronics.


 


The qualified applicant would be home-based in the Tampa Bay region of Florida with travel throughout Hernando, Pasco, Hillsborough, Pinellas, Manatee, and Sarasota Counties.
  
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of camera equipment and/or small portable electronic devices.


Knowledge of fish morphology, identification of marine fishes to species, offshore recreational fishing methods and behavior, data collection, and data entry.


Experience with the following: communication with the public; working effectively as part of a team under minimum supervision; species identification guides; thinking logically and apply problem-solving techniques; effectively communicating verbally and in writing; working unusual or long hours, holidays, or remotely; maintaining frequent contact with other staff and supervisors; and operating a personal computer and various word processing and data software.
