Job Description - ORD-Safety, Security Environmental and Training Manager

Role Purpose


Provides support to safety management on matters of safety & security, to proactively promote a ‘safety first’ culture, through a process of hazard identification and risk control, developing policy, supporting the field operation to introduce safe working procedures and proactive audit programs.


 Responsible for driving corporate safety and security programs and administer field station training programs for ramp and cargo operations through hands on and verbal instruction.


What you will be doing



  • Implement applicable Menzies Aviation policies, procedures, safety programs, environmental programs, and training standards at the ORD Fuel Farm.

  • Manage the station health and safety program, including Safety First initiatives, Stop Work Authority, hazard identification, risk assessments, safety observations, near-miss reporting, and corrective-action tracking.

  • Lead the employee training program, including new-hire onboarding, OJT progression, recurrent/refresher training, qualification records, competency checklists, and compliance tracking for all applicable fuel farm roles.

  • Coordinate required fuel operations training, including ATA 103-aligned training, local procedures, customer requirements, Quality Control awareness, and task-specific training for operators, technicians, dispatchers, leads, and supervisors.

  • Manage environmental compliance activities, including SPCC, SWPPP/stormwater, FRP/emergency response, spill prevention and response, Hazard Communication, waste handling, inspections, and environmental recordkeeping.

  • Support regulatory, customer, corporate, and airport audits by preparing records, coordinating responses, tracking corrective actions, and verifying sustained completion.

  • Conduct routine inspections of people, processes, facilities, equipment, and materials; identify unsafe or non-compliant conditions; communicate findings; and recommend corrective actions.

  • Oversee accident, incident, injury, spill, hazard, and near-miss reporting and investigation; ensure timely documentation, root-cause analysis, and follow-up with employees and supervisors.

  • Analyze safety, training, and environmental performance data to identify trends and provide weekly/monthly updates to the General Manager and applicable regional or corporate stakeholders.

  • Establish, support, and facilitate the station Safety Committee to drive communication, employee involvement, shared learning, and follow-up on identified concerns.

  • Develop, review, and maintain local operating procedures, training materials, safety briefs, environmental checklists, emergency response documents, and other compliance-related documents.

  • Partner with Operations, QC, Pipeline Maintenance, Dispatch, HR, contractors, and customer representatives to ensure safe, compliant, and reliable fuel farm operations.

  • Participate in airport, customer, contractor, and company safety or environmental meetings and cascade relevant alerts, bulletins, and lessons learned.

  • Report significant deficiencies in products, processes, materials, equipment, documentation, or work practices and recommend improvements.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the General Manager or senior leadership.


 


Physical Requirments


The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach with arms, climb or balance, and talk or hear. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 70 pounds and may be required to enter operational areas, inspect equipment, conduct field observations, and support emergency response activities.

What we are looking for:



  • Must be 18 years of age or older.

  • High school diploma or GED required; bachelor’s degree in safety, environmental science, aviation management, training, industrial operations, or a related field preferred.

  • Three to five years of related safety, environmental, training, aviation, fuel farm, petroleum, industrial, or military operations experience preferred; equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.

  • Prior experience leading safety programs, training programs, audits, inspections, incident investigations, or environmental compliance activities strongly preferred.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain required airport security badges, US Customs Seal, and driving authorization, as applicable.

  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug screening, background checks, and all required company or airport testing.

  • Must be available and flexible to support variable shifts, weekends, holidays, emergencies, drills, audits, and operational needs.

  • Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English; ability to write clear technical reports, correspondence, procedures, and training documents.

  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Teams, Excel, SharePoint, training trackers, electronic records, and reporting tools.

  • Preferred training or certifications include OSHA 30-Hour General Industry, HAZWOPER, Incident Investigation, Risk Assessment, First Aid/CPR, Hazard Communication, SPCC/SWPPP/FRP awareness, or equivalent experience.
