Orthopedic Surgeon – Joint Replacement (MD/DO)

Position Summary

The Orthopedic Joint Replacement Surgeon provides comprehensive surgical and non-surgical care for patients with degenerative and traumatic conditions affecting the hip, knee, and other major joints. This role focuses on primary and revision joint arthroplasty, perioperative management, and long-term functional outcomes, working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary care team to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and manage patients with degenerative joint disease, arthritis, and joint-related musculoskeletal conditions
  • Perform primary and revision joint replacement procedures, including hip and knee arthroplasty, consistent with training and privileges
  • Utilize minimally invasive, robotic-assisted, or advanced surgical techniques as appropriate
  • Provide non-operative management including injections, physical therapy planning, and medical optimization
  • Manage perioperative and postoperative care, including complications and recovery planning
  • Participate in emergency and on-call orthopedic coverage as required
  • Interpret diagnostic studies including X-rays, CT scans, MRI, and other imaging
  • Collaborate with anesthesiology, hospitalists, physical therapy, nursing, and case management teams
  • Educate patients regarding diagnosis, treatment options, surgical risks, and expected outcomes
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation
  • Participate in quality improvement, patient safety, and outcomes initiatives
  • Supervise and educate residents, fellows, advanced practice providers, or trainees as applicable
  • Comply with all regulatory, accreditation, and professional standards

Qualifications

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical school
  • Completion of an accredited orthopedic surgery residency program
  • Fellowship training in adult reconstruction or joint replacement surgery
  • Board-eligible or board-certified in Orthopedic Surgery
  • Ability to obtain and maintain unrestricted state medical licensure
  • DEA registration or eligibility

  • Ability to manage complex orthopedic cases and comorbid patients

  • Commitment to evidence-based practice, quality improvement, and patient safety

Work Environment

  • Hospital operating rooms, outpatient clinics, ambulatory surgery centers, and inpatient units
  • Call coverage including nights, weekends, and holidays as required

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods during surgical procedures
  • Manual dexterity and physical stamina for operative cases
  • Visual and auditory acuity sufficient for operative and clinical care


Requirements

Must maintain state certification and/or licensure.

Must be legally licensed to practice medicine in North Dakota and/or Minnesota, depending on the location of the practice to which you are assigned.
