Job Description - Osteopathic (OPP) - Clinical Teaching Faculty

Description

The Osteopathic Principles and Practices (OPP) physician faculty member works to assure osteopathic philosophy, and principles are taught throughout the curriculum. Primary responsibilities involve teaching, mentoring, and evaluating osteopathic medical students in the OPP courses of first and second years, as well as the third and fourth years. Other responsibilities may include instruction in courses beyond the OPP curriculum, student advising, student recruitment, retention and placement efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver high-quality lectures and hands-on laboratory sessions.
  • Create an engaging and interactive learning environment that fosters student comprehension and retention.
  • Participate in curriculum design and assessment, ensuring content remains relevant and up to date.
  • Provide guidance and support to students in their academic and professional development.
  • Administer assessments and evaluations to gauge student understanding and progress.
  • Engage in scholarly activities to contribute to the academic community and maintain currency in the field, as applicable.
  • Participate in faculty meetings and organizational committees, contributing to the continuous improvement of osteopathic education.
  • Familiarity and adherence to ICOM’s policies and procedures and AOA’s Code of Ethics.

Requirements
  • Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from a COCA-accredited medical school, with an active medical license for the state of Idaho. (Transitioning DOs to the state of Idaho must have an active license within 3 months of hire).
  • Board certification or board eligible by the appropriate AOA specialty board, as required.
  • Experience teaching Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM) / Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine (NMM).
  • Experience with curricular and instructional design and training or experience in educational theory and/or evaluation preferred.
  • Experience with curricular and instructional design and instructional technologies is desirable.
  • A team player who values collaboration, mutual support, and team cohesion.
  • Strong organization, interpersonal, and planning skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and excellent presentation skills.
  • Ability to work in a team and flexibility to work with others in a variety of circumstances.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively across disciplines with administrators, faculty and students.
