Job Title: Nocturnist Pediatric Emergency Room (ER) Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner

Job Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Nocturnist Pediatric Emergency Room (ER) Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our team. This role involves comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and management of pediatric patients in an emergency care setting during nighttime shifts. The Nocturnist will work closely with physicians and other healthcare professionals to provide high-quality, compassionate care for children, ensuring that therapeutic measures and treatment plans are effectively implemented and evaluated.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Patient Assessment:

o Conduct thorough physical examinations, health history interviews, and psychosocial assessments to determine the physical and emotional needs of pediatric patients.

o Recognize and identify deviations from normal during the physical assessment process.

2. Collaborative Care:

o Collaborate with attending physicians to formulate treatment plans for pediatric health problems, including follow-up care, diagnostics, and therapeutic measures.

o Provide input into treatment decisions and adjust plans as necessary based on the child’s condition.

3. Prescribing and Medication Management:

o Write prescriptions for medications, blood products, and therapeutic measures as appropriate, in line with clinical guidelines and practice protocols.

o Order and interpret diagnostic studies, including lab work and imaging, to support treatment decisions.

o Manage post-discharge care and provide follow-up instructions for ongoing health issues.

4. Clinical Trials and Consultation:

o Assess patient eligibility for participation in clinical trials, coordinating with the clinical research team where applicable.

o Request and collaborate with other healthcare professionals (physicians, specialists, etc.) for consultations, ensuring comprehensive care for complex cases.

5. Interpretation and Evaluation:

o Analyze diagnostic study results and evaluate patient data to make informed decisions about care.

o Communicate findings clearly to collaborating physicians and other team members.

6. Care Administration:

o Administer prescribed therapeutic measures and obtain necessary specimens for analysis and treatment.

o Ensure that all treatments are carried out in a timely, efficient manner, adhering to safety protocols.

7. Quality Improvement:

o Evaluate the quality of care provided, identify areas for improvement, and recommend strategies for enhancement in patient care processes.

o Participate in the continuous evaluation of clinical outcomes to ensure high standards of pediatric emergency care.

8. Family Support and Communication:

o Offer guidance and emotional support to patients’ families, especially during acute and chronic phases of care.

o Assist families in coping with the impact of a child’s illness and treatment through appropriate communication and interventions.

9. On-Call Coverage and Triage:

o Provide on-call coverage during overnight shifts as required.

o Perform patient triage and prioritize cases based on the urgency of physician evaluation.

10. Symptom Management:

o Manage pediatric patients experiencing side effects from oncologic treatments and other complex medical interventions, ensuring symptom relief and patient comfort.

11. Multidisciplinary Collaboration:

o Participate in daily multidisciplinary rounds to discuss and optimize patient care plans.

o Work closely with program assistants, data managers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal care.

12. Documentation and Communication:

o Dictate or write comprehensive patient histories, admissions, progress notes, and discharge summaries.

o Communicate patient care details to referring physicians, ensuring continuity of care post-discharge.

13. Preventive Health Services:

o Provide preventive health services, including routine screenings, immunizations, and risk assessments for pediatric patients.

Requirements

Qualifications:

• Master's degree in Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program.

• Current PA or NP licensure in the state of practice.

• Certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and other relevant certifications.

• Minimum of four (4) years of pediatric emergency room experience preferred.

• Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
