Job Description - Patient Care Associate-PCA - St. Louis Rehab

Under the direction of the RN or LPN, assists in the individualized care of the patient to achieve the patients highest level of wellness. Works cooperatively with others as part of a team; recognizes the importance of group goals. Performs designated clinical procedures and non-clinical support tasks essential to providing care to the patient.

Patient Care Associate / Patient Care Technician

Hours / Shift:
• 3 / 12-hour shifts
Day shift or Nights! 7 am -7pm or 7 pm -7am
• Rotating weekends and holidays

Mercy Rehabilitation Hospital St. Louis is a state-of-the-art inpatient rehabilitation facility dedicated to helping patients recover and regain independence. Our programs range from single therapies to comprehensive, multidisciplinary care for patients recovering from:
Strokes
Brain or spinal-cord injuries
Amputations
Burns
Orthopedic injuries
…and other complex conditions.

We deliver compassionate, team-based care focused on improving functional ability and quality of life. Our Treatment Team includes experienced Rehabilitation Nurses providing 24/7 patient-centered care in an exceptional work environment.

Overview
Under the direction of an RN or LPN, assists with individualized patient care to help each patient achieve their highest level of wellness.

Job Duties

Growth Opportunity
• Advancement through career ladder to Patient Care Technician (PCT) and beyond

‍⚕️ Patient Care Associate (PCA) Responsibilities:
• Obtain and document vital signs in the electronic medical record
• ️ Assist with meals, bathing, toileting, ambulation, mobility, and transport
• ️ Provide clerical support as needed

‍⚕️ Patient Care Technician (PCT) Responsibilities:
• All PCA duties
• Phlebotomy / blood cultures
• Enteral feeding
• Wound care
• IV / Foley removal
• Trach care and suctioning

Training
• Our PCA training program is an accredited Department of Labor Apprenticeship Program offering hands-on experience in a supportive healthcare environment
• No experience? Mercy provides a 175-hour required training program meeting DHSS requirements (completed within 90 days of hire)
• ✅ BLS required within 1 month of hire
• ✅ PCA competencies completed within 3 months of hire

Qualifications
• High school diploma or G.E.D
• CNA / CPTC OR enrolled in a high school healthcare career program
• Current Mercy co-worker also eligible
