Description

Under the direct supervision of licensed nursing personnel, the Patient Care Technician I (PCT I) provides direct patient care and clinical support services in the Pre/Post procedural setting. The PCT I assists with patient preparation, monitoring, comfort, mobility, and basic clinical data collection to support safe and efficient patient flow. The role collaborates closely with the interdisciplinary team to meet patient care needs while maintaining equipment, supplies, and unit readiness. The PCT I supports a positive patient experience through compassionate, respectful, and professional interactions.

 



Responsibilities
  • Provides direct patient care under the supervision of licensed nursing personnel, including assisting with activities of daily living, mobility, positioning, hygiene, comfort measures, and patient safety needs.
  • Obtains, documents, and reports patient information, including vital signs, weights, intake and output, pain assessments, and other assigned observations according to established procedures.
  • Assists with patient admission, preparation, transport, recovery, and discharge processes to support efficient patient flow throughout the Pre/Post procedural setting.
  • Performs assigned clinical support activities, including specimen collection, point-of-care testing, electrocardiogram acquisition, and other delegated tasks within validated competencies and organizational policies.
  • Maintains a safe, clean, and organized patient care environment by cleaning equipment, stocking supplies, performing routine room turnover activities, and identifying equipment or safety concerns.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, families, nurses, physicians, and other members of the interdisciplinary team to support quality patient care, positive patient experiences, and timely escalation of patient concerns or condition changes.


Qualifications

Minimum Education

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent Required


Minimum Work Experience

  • 1 year Direct patient care experience in an acute care, procedural, or healthcare setting. Preferred


Licenses and Certifications

  • BLS for Healthcare Providers (BLS) American Heart Association Upon Hire Required
  • Certified Patient Care Technician (APCT_ASPT) Upon Hire Preferred
  • Clinical training or completion of a patient care technician, nursing assistant, or related program. Upon Hire Preferred


Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Knowledge of basic patient care principles and common clinical procedures.
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology relevant to Pre/Post procedural care.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work under the direction of licensed personnel.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Ability to provide compassionate, patient centered care in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and respond appropriately to patient and unit needs.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and organizational policies.
  • Ability to demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and accountability.
