Position Summary
Delaware Valley Paving is seeking an experienced Paving Foreman to lead and oversee daily asphalt paving operations in the field. The Paving Foreman is responsible for directing paving crews, coordinating equipment and materials, maintaining production schedules, and ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and according to project specifications and company quality standards. The ideal candidate has strong hands-on asphalt paving experience, proven field leadership skills, and the ability to effectively manage crews and equipment in a fast-paced construction environment.
Key Responsibilities
Crew Leadership & Field Operations
- Lead and supervise paving crews during daily field operations.
- Assign responsibilities to operators, laborers, and other crew members based on project needs and daily production goals.
- Provide clear direction to crew members and ensure employees understand their responsibilities and expectations.
- Coordinate daily paving activities including jobsite preparation, asphalt placement, grading, rolling, compaction, and cleanup.
- Monitor crew performance and productivity throughout the workday.
- Train and mentor crew members on proper paving techniques, equipment operation, safety procedures, and company expectations.
- Maintain a professional and productive work environment while holding crew members accountable for performance and safety.
- Assist with paving and equipment operation as necessary to maintain production
Production & Quality Control
- Review daily project requirements, plans, specifications, and production goals with the Superintendent and/or Project Manager.
- Ensure paving operations are completed according to required grades, elevations, depths, slopes, and project specifications.
- Monitor asphalt placement and compaction to ensure finished work meets company and customer quality standards.
- Identify field issues that may impact production, quality, or schedule and communicate them promptly to project leadership.
- Plan manpower, equipment, and material needs to maintain efficient paving operations.
- Monitor material deliveries and coordinate trucking to minimize delays and maintain continuous paving production.
- Track daily production and communicate progress to the appropriate Superintendent or Project Manager.
- Ensure jobsites are properly prepared, organized, and cleaned throughout the project.
Equipment & Material Coordination
- Coordinate the daily use of pavers, rollers, skid steers, loaders, and other paving equipment.
- Ensure operators complete required equipment inspections and properly maintain assigned equipment.
- Identify and report equipment problems or maintenance needs promptly to minimize downtime.
- Coordinate asphalt, trucking, equipment, and other resources needed to complete scheduled work.
- Promote proper care and responsible use of company equipment, vehicles, tools, and materials.
Safety
- Lead by example and enforce Delaware Valley Paving safety policies and applicable OSHA requirements.
- Conduct or participate in daily jobsite safety meetings, toolbox talks, and pre-task planning.
- Ensure employees are wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE) and following safe work practices.
- Maintain awareness of jobsite traffic, equipment movement, employees, subcontractors, customers, and the public.
- Immediately address unsafe behaviors or jobsite conditions.
- Report accidents, injuries, near misses, property damage, and other incidents in accordance with company procedures.
- Ensure appropriate traffic control and jobsite safety measures are maintained throughout paving operations.
Communication & Coordination
- Serve as the primary field leader for the paving crew and maintain regular communication with Superintendents, Project Managers, and other operations personnel.
- Communicate changes in job conditions, production, scheduling, manpower, equipment, or material needs promptly.
- Coordinate with other crews, subcontractors, trucking companies, inspectors, and customers as required.
- Complete and submit required daily reports, timekeeping information, production documentation, and other field paperwork accurately and on time.
- Represent Delaware Valley Paving professionally when interacting with customers, inspectors, subcontractors, and the public.
Qualifications
- Previous asphalt paving experience required.
- Previous experience as a Paving Foreman, Lead Operator, or similar field leadership position strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of asphalt paving operations, equipment, production methods, and quality standards.
- Experience directing paving crews and coordinating manpower, equipment, materials, and trucking.
- Ability to read and understand project plans, specifications, grades, and job requirements.
- Ability to identify and resolve field problems while maintaining production and quality.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to operate paving and heavy construction equipment when needed.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and quality workmanship.
- Ability to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and overtime based on project schedules.
- Ability to travel to various job sites as required.
