Position Summary
Delaware Valley Paving is seeking an experienced Paving Operator to join our field operations team. The Paving Operator will be responsible for safely and efficiently operating paving and heavy construction equipment while supporting asphalt paving operations on commercial, municipal, and other construction projects. The ideal candidate has previous asphalt paving experience, is comfortable operating multiple types of equipment, and understands the importance of safety, quality, production, and teamwork in a fast-paced construction environment.
Key Responsibilities
Equipment Operation
- Safely operate paving and construction equipment, which may include pavers, rollers, skid steers, loaders, excavators, backhoes, and other equipment as assigned.
- Operate equipment efficiently to support asphalt placement, grading, compaction, material movement, and general paving operations.
- Perform daily pre-operation inspections and identify equipment maintenance or safety concerns.
- Maintain equipment in clean and safe operating condition.
- Follow proper equipment operating procedures and manufacturer guidelines.
- Immediately report equipment damage, mechanical issues, or unsafe conditions to the appropriate supervisor.
Paving & Field Operations
- Assist with all phases of asphalt paving operations, including site preparation, material placement, grading, paving, and compaction.
- Work closely with foremen, superintendents, laborers, truck drivers, and other equipment operators to maintain efficient production.
- Follow grades, elevations, paving depths, and project specifications as directed.
- Assist with handwork and general labor duties when equipment operation is not required.
- Support jobsite setup, cleanup, and traffic control activities as needed.
- Maintain awareness of surrounding personnel, equipment, vehicles, and jobsite conditions at all times.
- Help ensure completed work meets Delaware Valley Paving's quality standards and project requirements.
Safety
- Follow all Delaware Valley Paving safety policies and applicable OSHA requirements.
- Properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Participate in toolbox talks, safety meetings, and jobsite briefings.
- Operate equipment in a safe manner around employees, subcontractors, customers, and the public.
- Immediately report accidents, injuries, near misses, property damage, and unsafe conditions.
Qualifications
- Previous experience operating heavy equipment in asphalt paving, sitework, roadway construction, or a related construction environment preferred.
- Experience operating paving equipment strongly preferred.
- Ability to safely operate one or more pieces of heavy construction equipment.
- Basic understanding of asphalt paving operations and construction jobsite procedures.
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a crew.
- Strong work ethic, dependability, and attention to safety.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and overtime as project schedules require.
- Ability to travel to various job sites as needed.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required.
