Job Title: Peacemaking Coordinator (Part - Time) 

Department: Tribal Court

Location: Manistee, MI

Pay Grade: NE 10 | Hourly Pay: $19.54 – $24.33 - $ 28.38 (based on verified qualifications)

Employment Type: Part -Time | Non-Exempt | Bi-weekly Pay

About the Role: 

Responsible for overseeing the growth, promotion, and everyday functions of the Peacemaking program.

Qualifications:

• Associate’s degree and/or work experience of 5 or more years in a related field (a combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of an associate’s degree);


• Technical skills of an intermediate to advanced user of MS Office Software, case management database systems, computers, and office equipment


• An understanding of the Tribal Court system and Tribal laws


• Knowledge of Anishinaabe culture and traditions.


• Ability to work independently while under the supervision of the court administrator and chief judge.


• Must be able to meet the Peacemaker qualifications and ethics/conduct requirements set forth in the Peacemaking Guidelines.


• Valid driver’s license


• Must be able to pass a criminal background and central registry check. 


• Applicants cannot have any of the following convictions: any assaultive crimes, any crimes of dishonesty/fraud or moral turpitude. Felony convictions must be explained to the satisfaction of the Chief Judge and Court Administrator. Applicants cannot be on or be on any central registry (child abuse/neglect), or sex offender registry.
  

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Recruit and train Peacemakers


2. Promote the Peacemaking program through news articles, meetings, information sessions, and attendance at Tribal functions


3. Conduct Peacemaking sessions or appoint Peacemakers with consent of Chief Judge and monitor progress of Peacemakers.


4. Assist in the development of Peacemaking contracts and monitor their progress


5. Monitor Peacemakers


6. Monitor and participate in juvenile delinquency matters as part of the Case Intake Team and in Court.


7. Prepare written monthly reports to the Court


8. Implement and follow Peacemaking guidelines, Tribal Court rules in conjunction with Administrative Orders and the Chief Judge.


9. Assist Tribal members in accessing services of the program


10. Case management duties including data entry into database, maintaining a case file, responding to emails and written correspondence, and scheduling Peacemaking sessions


11. Operate a broad range of office equipment such as computers, copiers, scanners, shredders, and other department specific machines. Works with vendors/IT staff for proper equipment maintenance.


12. Maintain a high level of integrity and personal conduct in the Tribal community at all times


13. Maintain confidentiality in all aspects of work and comply with all applicable tribal, federal, or state laws and procedures


14. Occasional travel to attend off-site Peacemaking sessions, meetings and trainings.


15. All other duties as assigned by supervisor

In accordance with the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians' Ordinance #15-600-02, the Tribe applies Indian Preference in hiring activities. When claiming Indian Preference, an applicant must identify oneself in the proper category on the application and provide the documentation noted below. Following is the order in which preference is applied during the hiring process, as well as the customary documentation used to verify.

1.       Tribal Members of the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians – Tribal identification card.

2.       Members of Federally Recognized Indian Tribes – Tribal identification card.

3.       Tribal Spouse of a Little River Band of Ottawa Indians Tribal Member – Current and valid marriage license and a copy of spouse’s tribal identification card, or Tribal Parent – Same documentation required for tribal spouse.

4.       Tribal Descendant (1st generation, biological parent must be a Little River Band of Ottawa Indians Tribal Member) – Birth certificate and a copy of parent’s tribal identification card.
