POSITION PURPOSE
Trinity Health is committed to becoming a PEOPLE-centered organization. This includes embedding Performance Excellence (PX) into the heart of our culture and transforming our operations to improve value to patients. The Performance Excellence team spans the Southeast Michigan region. This position may be based at anyone of the health ministries in Michigan and includes collaboration with the broader PX team and stakeholders across the region. Together, this team is coaching problem solving at all levels through application of lean and six sigma principles and tools.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 

Project Work

  • Actively leads and mentors teams and provides individual contribution in problem solving efforts on cross-functional projects to improve all operational metrics such as quality, timeliness, rework, financial stewardship, patient satisfaction and employee satisfaction.

  • Provides assistance and acts as a resource to functional departments and business units identifying, scoping, planning and implementing PX projects.
  • Works with hospital leadership in the development and execution of PX projects and provides management with project status updates, feedback and project reporting using a project management tracking system.
  • Successfully completes 2-4 major projects per year (and several minor ones) which deliver measurable improvements that help deliver the hospital's objectives.
  • Works with Finance and other members of the organization in assessing, tracking and reporting the financial benefit of a PX project.
  • Prepares and writes final reports on each project per the final project report format.
  • Act as an ongoing mentor to the leadership of completed projects to ensure sustainability and continuous improvement.

Coaching & Knowledge Transfer

  • Facilitates PX training classes for SJMHS colleagues and leaders.

  • Collaborates with regional PX colleagues to create standard tools and educational content to support PX work.

  • Act as a PX Mentor to the leadership of the project that you lead to drive the leadership behaviors of sustainability and continuous improvement.

  • Direct organization in meaningful strategy deployment, leader standard work, and other core elements of an operating model/management system.

Foundation

  • Engages Performance Excellence (PX) principles and methods to support hospital priorities in fulfilling the vision and mission of Trinity Health.

  • Identifies and works to remove barriers that slow or prevent the successful attainment of process/productivity improvement and administrative efficiency that will lead to cost reduction and competitive advantage.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE

  • Four-year degree, preferably in business, health care, engineering or technical discipline. Graduate degree in related area preferred.

  • Five + years' experience in coaching improvement projects. Healthcare work experience strongly preferred.

  • Lean and/or Six Sigma certification strongly preferred.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Demonstrated coaching ability.

  • Strong analytical skills including statistical analysis, Excel, Minitab. Demonstrated ability to use mathematical concepts to measure and analyze business results.

  • Continuous learner in all PX philosophies and tools including, but not limited to: Lean, Six Sigma, Rapid Process Improvement (RPI), Change Leadership and Design for Six Sigma (DFSS).

  • Excellent customer service orientation skills to work effectively with various levels of hospital personnel, outside customers and community groups.

  • Proven leadership skills and business acumen as demonstrated through experience in multifunctional areas and/or in-depth experience leading a complex operating environment.

  • Excellent presentation, communication, negotiation skills, both oral and written necessary to interact and lead people at all levels and with multiple disciplines and interests.

  • Ability to think broadly and strategically about business issues, to develop a vision of improved management practices and to engage others in that vision.

  • Strong project management skills including the ability to plan and track progress of large, short, and long term multi-faceted projects.
