Perfusionist-Atlantic Health Morristown Medical Center-Full Time

A Staff Perfusionist operates and maintains the heart-lung machine and related equipment during cardiopulmonary bypass and other extracorporeal procedures. They ensure optimal patient perfusion by managing physiological parameters, monitoring equipment function, and collaborating closely with the surgical and anesthesia teams. The role also includes participation in quality assurance, education, and ongoing departmental improvement initiatives.

Job Functions:

•  Responsible for operating the Heart/Lung machine while safely maintaining patient cardiac output, tissue oxygenation, and hemodynamics during cardiopulmonary bypass.
•  Administers medications and blood components through the extracorporeal circuit.
• Responsible for drawing blood samples from the extracorporeal circuit and making adjustments to maintain normal blood gas parameters.
•  Maintains adequate anticoagulation during cardiopulmonary bypass.
•  Initiates ECMO and monitors patients while on ECMO.
•  Operates the cell saver.
•  Operates the HIPEC machine and AngioVac circuit.
•  Maintains quality controls for iStat and TEG as well as interpreting results.
•  Works closely with the other members of the operating room team to provide the safest and best possible care to patients undergoing cardiac surgery.
•  Build, maintain, prime and breakdown perfusion equipment, as needed.
•  Assembles and monitors ventricular assist device.

• Graduate of an accredited Perfusion, Cardiology or equivalent program
• Certified by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion (ABCP)
• At least 2 years experience as a perfusionist
• New Jersey State Perfusion License
• Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Able to work in a fast-paced environment along with having good communication skills
