Job Description - Pharmacist

Pharmacist (PV2), Temporary Assignment

About the Assignment

Indispensable Health is seeking an experienced pharmacist for a 3-week assignment at one of our clients, a mail order compounding pharmacy that dispenses patient-specific prescriptions. You will cover an extended absence and serve as the sole pharmacist on site. The primary function is PV2 (final product verification), the last quality checkpoint before compounded medications are packaged and shipped. Hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:00pm.

You will be employed by Indispensable Health, not the pharmacy. The client pharmacy provides day-to-day direction, systems, and SOPs.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Perform final verification (PV2) of compounded preparations, confirming the finished product matches the prescription, the compounding record, and the master formulation record
  • Verify ingredients, lot numbers, expiration/beyond-use dates, quantities, and calculations
  • Inspect finished products for appearance, consistency, and container/closure integrity
  • Confirm labeling meets state and federal requirements, including patient and prescriber information, directions, BUD, storage, and auxiliary labels
  • Review batch and compounding documentation for completeness and accuracy
  • Reject or hold preparations with discrepancies and document the findings
  • Verify packaging and cold-chain requirements for temperature-sensitive shipments
  • Follow USP <795>, <797>, and <800> (as applicable), cGMP practices, and the client's SOPs

Sole-Pharmacist Responsibilities

  • Serve as the pharmacist on duty, responsible for all pharmacist functions during the shift, including any clinical review, prescription verification, and pharmacist-level questions
  • Be the on-site point of contact for technicians, staff, prescribers, and patients on pharmacist matters
  • Make and document judgment calls on holds, rejections, and escalations, with no second pharmacist for a check
  • Ensure the pharmacy operates in compliance with state board of pharmacy requirements while you are on duty
  • Coordinate with the client's designated contact (e.g., owner or management) for decisions outside your scope
  • Handle opening and closing procedures as defined by the client

Required Qualifications

  • Active, unrestricted pharmacist license in Texas
  • PharmD or BPharm from an accredited program
  • Minimum [2-3] years of pharmacy experience; compounding or mail order experience strongly preferred
  • Experience working independently as the only pharmacist on duty
  • Working knowledge of USP compounding standards and Texas board of pharmacy regulations
  • Strong attention to detail in accuracy-critical work

Preferred

  • Experience verifying sterile and/or non-sterile compounds
  • Ability to be productive after minimal onboarding
  • Candidates should be comfortable getting up to speed quickly.
