Position: Full-Time 40 hours/ week

Wage Rang: $20.00- $22.60 (Depending on experience and Certification)

Position Summary

The Pharmacy Technician is a non-professional healthcare employee who, under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, performs specific job responsibilities limited by the Nebraska DHHS Pharmacy Statutes under paragraph 71-1,147.33 for the Cherry County Hospital and Clinic.     

Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

• Enters medication orders into computerized system, from written orders; to be verified by the pharmacist
• Prepares medication daily fill, for check by pharmacist; delivers to patient rooms (via locked pass-through cabinet)
• Checks and refills automated medication systems and various floor stocks
• Mixes intravenous additive solutions, and chemotherapy, under the supervision of a pharmacist
• Packages medications into U/D containers, for check by pharmacist
• Checks medication outdates
• Cleans and disinfects sterile product (IV) preparation rooms 
• Performs patient home medication reconciliation
• Prepares medication restocking orders
• Receives medication orders, and updates system as necessary
• Restocks pharmacy shelves and supplies
• Audits patient charges, reconciles charges as required
• Updates medication price changes; assists other departments with medication charging information
• Attends department staff meetings and in-service programs
• Alerts supervisor to accident producing hazards and promotes safety; knowledgeable of fire and evacuation protocols
• Makes economical use of time, supplies, and equipment
• Maintains an organized and hygienic working area
• Respects and preserves patient confidential information. Ensures the confidentiality of patients’ medical, personal, and financial records is maintained
• Knowledgeable of Pharmacy Department policies and procedures, and is in compliance with them
• Knowledgeable of and committed to practicing Corporate Compliance policies and procedures
• Complies with Cherry County Hospital personnel policies
• Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor or Director of Pharmacy

• Must be knowledgeable of state and federal confidentiality laws, including but not limited to HIPAA, and be familiar with and follow all policies, procedures and instructions regarding the privacy and security of protected health information applicable to the position.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

• Physical mobility to be able to restock supplies and medications on existing shelving
• Ability to use available protective equipment to protect against potentially toxic substances/infectious disease
• Physically able to perform computer operations

Requirements

 Minimum Job Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent
• Eighteen (18) years of age or older
• Completed pharmacy technician training per regulation, or certification obtained within 6 months of hire
• Previous hospital/pharmacy experience preferred but not required
• Must not have ever been convicted of any drug-related misdemeanor or felony
