The Pharmacy Technician assists the pharmacist by preparing and dispensing medications, including counting, packaging, labeling, and entering prescription information into computer systems. This position manages inventory tasks such as pulling medications from stock, coordinating deliveries, and handling insurance verification and billing at the point of service. The Pharmacy Technician also interacts directly with patients, providers, and insurance companies to provide courteous customer service and resolve issues. Additionally, this position will handle phone calls, payment transactions, and other administrative tasks while supporting efficient pharmacy workflow and compliance with standards. 

 

Work Schedule:

Monday to Friday

Hours 8:00am to 5:00pm









Responsibilities






  • Remove drug(s) from stock; count, pour, or mix pharmaceuticals
  • Place the product into a container
  • Affix the label or labels to the container
  • Package/repackage as needed
  • Type prescription label(s) or enter prescription information into a computer record system
  • Verify/re-verify insurance benefits
  • Interact courteously with patients and team members to develop and maintain positive, professional relationships
  • Answer incoming questions and make outbound calls to patients, case managers, providers, insurance companies, etc.
  • Handle payment transactions at Point of Service (POS) and reconcile beginning and end-of-day transactions
  • Coordinate prescription deliveries
  • Proactively identify and analyze problems and provide effective solutions
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned

Qualifications






Education and Experience:

  • Must have an active Pharmacy Technician License issued by the California State Board of Pharmacy.
  • Associates degree in Pharmacy Technology from a program accredited by the American Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists ((ASHP) or the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) a plus. 
  • High school diploma or GED diploma is required. 
  • Bilingual in Spanish a plus. 
  • Proficient in English with strong verbal and written communication skills is required. 
  • Excellent phone etiquette ability skills is required. 
  • Minimum one year of pharmacy technician experience in a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) clinic preferred. 
  • Minimum of one year of customer service work experience. 
  • Must be able to provide exceptional customer service. 
  • Strong typing and data entry skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to take initiative as needed. 

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Fulfill immunization and fit for duty regulatory requirements.
  • Prolonged standing, walking, and prolonged periods sitting at desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times and move boxes and equipment.
  • Fine motor hand movements typical of performing standard computer entry and prescription tabulation and inventory.
  • Able to read charts graphs and readings on documents and computers.
