Job Description - Physician Assistant - Inpatient Acute Care

Humboldt Park Health is a mission-driven, community-based hospital serving Chicago’s West Side since 1894. We are committed to advancing health equity and delivering compassionate, high-quality care to diverse patient populations.


We are seeking a full-time Physician Assistant for our Inpatient Acute Care / Observation Unit who is passionate about patient-centered care, clinical excellence, and community impact. This role offers the opportunity to work at the top of your license, collaborate closely with physicians and interdisciplinary teams, and make a meaningful difference in the lives of patients from all walks of life.


Key Responsibilities


Patient Care & Clinical Excellence




  • Deliver comprehensive healthcare services including preventive, chronic, and acute care for patients ranging from infant to geriatric populations.




  • Obtain detailed medical histories and perform thorough physical examinations.




  • Diagnose illnesses and develop evidence-based treatment plans, including pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions.




  • Perform health risk assessments, screenings, and patient counseling within the Observation Unit.




  • Provide continuity of care through progress notes, patient management plans, and care coordination.




Patient Education & Engagement




  • Educate patients, families, and caregivers regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, and health maintenance.




  • Counsel patients on compliance with therapeutic regimens and lifestyle modifications.




  • Provide medical and mental health education to promote long-term wellness.




Quality & Safety




  • Deliver care aligned with current evidence-based guidelines and best practice standards.




  • Maintain accurate, timely, and thorough medical documentation.




  • Participate in quality assurance activities and clinical audits.




  • Engage in continuing education and professional development to remain current with industry advancements.




Collaboration & Teamwork




  • Collaborate with supervising physicians and interdisciplinary healthcare teams in care coordination and clinical meetings.




  • Contribute to a culture of safety, compassion, and continuous improvement.




Required Qualifications




  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.




  • Current or eligible licensure as a Physician Assistant in the State of Illinois.




  • NCCPA certification.




  • Ability to provide high-quality care in a fast-paced inpatient or acute care environment.




  • Strong clinical judgment, communication, and teamwork skills.




  • Commitment to serving diverse and underserved patient populations.
