Physician Contracting Manager

The Physician Compensation and Contracting Manager plays a vital role in advancing Atlantic Health System’s physician recruitment, retention, and engagement strategies. This highly visible position partners with physicians, operational leaders, and senior executives to guide physician compensation and contracting activities throughout  the employment lifecycle. The ideal candidate brings strong knowledge of physician compensation and contracting, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to build trusted relationships across all levels of the organization. Success in this role requires sound judgment, confidence in navigating complex conversations, a commitment to continuous improvement, and a desire to contribute to both individual and organizational success in a dynamic healthcare environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The following duties and responsibilities generally reflect the expectations of this position but are not intended to be all-inclusive.

• Effectively communicate across all involved parties with the contracting process, including but not limited to Senior Leadership, Recruitment, Onboarding, Business Development, Operations, and Marketing. 
• Maintains a detailed record of all AMG physician contracts and related compensation arrangements.
• Reviews and manages many stages of requests submitted through our Physician Contracting Database (IronClad).
• Ensures that all pertinent details and materials are present and accurate in the IronClad request and if needed, partners with Operations and/or the Department to complete the request if unsubmitted or incomplete.
• Develops physician compensation plans (or leverages existing standardized physician compensation plans) and ensures equity with other similarly trained and experienced physicians in the system.
• Conducts Fair Market Valuation on all Physician Compensation Models and confirms that plans are in compliance with Fair Market Guidelines.
• Compiles materials for physician arrangement submitted to the Atlantic Physician Compensation Committee (APCC) to ensure accuracy and completeness.
• Attends APCC meetings and provides guidance and further insight as needed to support the Committee’s decision-making process.
• Drafts term sheets and employment contracts including new recruits and renewals.
• Partners with Legal, as needed, to review and ensure agreements are ready to release to Physicians
• Collaborates with Physician Recruitment to present term sheet and employment agreements to Physicians.
• Provides prompt follow-up to Physicians on questions related to contract matters, including follow-up on contract-related questions, requests, and further negotiations.
• Provides reports from IronClad, as needed to support Senior Leadership, Operations, and Business Development.
• Remains informed on trends in physician compensation with sources such as American Medical Group Association (AMGA), Medical Group Management Association (MGMA), Sullivan Cotter, as well as the trends regionally and with other large medical groups.
• Monitors regulatory changes that may impact AMG employment and compensation practices.
• Continuously evaluate departmental processes/protocols, and research/incorporate best practices into our Physician Compensation and Contracting processes. 
• Solicit feedback to continuously improve departmental processes/protocols.
• Participate in other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Preferred knowledge, skills, experience, and education:

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including superior grammar and proofreading skills. 
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally at all levels of the organization.  
• The ability to multi-task, plan and prioritize a large volume of detail-oriented work in accordance with changing deadlines. 
• Demonstrate high emotional intelligence and collaborate closely with all internal and external parties.
• Ideally possess at least 3 years of experience with Physician Compensation design, preparing or using Fair Market Valuations, and/or supporting physician contracting within a healthcare organization.
• The ability to work with minimum supervision, set priorities, and follow through to accomplish results. 
• Strong computer technology skills including, but not limited to, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. 
• Demonstrated ability to conduct Internet research in an efficient, productive manner. 

• Bachelor's degree in business, healthcare administration, finance, human resources, or a related field.

• 3+ years of experience in physician compensation, physician contracting, healthcare administration, compensation, contract administration, or a related field.

• Experience working with complex compensation programs, contracts, or healthcare business processes.

• Strong understanding of compensation administration and/or physician contracting practices.

• Experience managing complex, multi-step processes involving multiple stakeholders.

• Strong analytical, organizational, and project management skills.

• Demonstrated ability to interpret detailed contractual and compensation information.

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.

• Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a complex healthcare environment.
