Platform Engineer at New Iron

Job Description

We’re looking for a hands-on Platform Engineer to help build the backend and data platform for a new product. The codebase is still early, so this person will have a meaningful role in shaping the architecture, development standards, and deployment approach.

You’ll build production backend services and APIs that ingest, query, and deliver high-volume data. The platform will be containerized and deployed with Kubernetes in both connected and air-gapped customer environments.

What you’ll do:

  Build backend services for data ingestion, retrieval, and delivery

  
  


• 
  

  Design the flow between storage, backend services, and client applications

  
  


• 
  

  Develop strongly typed APIs using Protobuf and gRPC

  
  


• 
  

  Package, deploy, and troubleshoot services on Kubernetes

  
  


• 
  

  Address container registries, security, credentials, availability, and recovery

  
  


• 
  

  Help establish practical engineering standards for an early-stage product

  
  

What we need:

• 
  

  Hands-on production Kubernetes experience, including diagnosing and recovering failed deployments (K3s or RKE2) 

  
  


• 
  

  Experience deploying applications in air-gapped or restricted environments

  
  


• 
  

  Backend development and API design experience; Go, Java, or Python may be relevant

  
  


• 
  

  Ability to take an open-ended problem, propose a design, and build the solution with limited direction

  
  

Experience with high-volume ingestion, telemetry, IoT data, data lakes, performance-sensitive systems, or defense environments would be helpful.
