Portfolio Oversight Manager

Summary

The Portfolio Oversight Manager is responsible for leading and strengthening the bank’s credit review and portfolio management function to support safe, sound, and profitable growth. This role oversees the design and execution of portfolio-level credit monitoring, early-warning processes, and watch-list governance, ensuring timely identification of emerging risks, adherence to credit policy, and alignment with regulatory expectations. The Portfolio Oversight Manager partners closely with Credit Administration, Lending, Special Assets, and senior management to provide meaningful portfolio insights, recommend risk-mitigating actions, and continuously enhance the bank’s portfolio management framework. 

Responsibilities

• Lead the management and optimization of the Bank’s portfolio management system, including system configuration, data integrity, and reporting outputs.
• Monitor portfolio-level risk trends (e.g., risk rating migration, industry concentrations, collateral coverage, exceptions, delinquencies) and recommend appropriate actions to line management and senior leadership.
• Develop, maintain, and enhance early-warning indicators and monitoring routines to proactively identify deteriorating credits or segments.
• Coordinate with Credit Administration and Special Assets to ensure timely escalation and resolution of emerging problem credits.
• Oversee processes to ensure timely collection, spreading, and analysis of ongoing financial information (e.g., borrower financial statements, tax returns, rent rolls, borrowing base certificates) for designated portfolios and relationship segments.
• Monitor financial performance, covenant compliance, and borrowing base availability; initiate appropriate follow-up or corrective actions when deterioration or non-compliance is identified.
• Provide guidance to relationship managers and analysts on interpreting financial trends and assessing borrower capacity and performance.
• Oversee analysis and monitoring of lines of credit secured by accounts receivable, inventory, or other fluctuating collateral, including periodic borrowing base testing and margin adequacy reviews.
• Coordinate with the portfolio review assistant and lending teams to facilitate the timely renewal of maturing loans, with appropriate updated financial analysis, risk rating review, and documentation.
• Monitor upcoming maturities at the portfolio level, identify potential renewal bottlenecks, and help drive timely completion to minimize exceptions and administrative extensions.
• Perform post-mortem analysis on charged-off and adversely classified transactions to identify patterns, root causes, and missed opportunities for loss prevention or early remediation.
• Present findings and recommendations to Credit Administration, senior management, and relevant committees, and help incorporate lessons learned into policies, underwriting standards, and monitoring practices.
• Contribute to enhancements in portfolio management tools, reporting, and workflows to improve efficiency and risk visibility.
• Lead, coach, and develop portfolio review staff (e.g., portfolio review assistant and other support roles), ensuring high standards of credit analysis, documentation, and judgment.
• Provide training and guidance to lenders, credit analysts, and branch staff on portfolio monitoring requirements, early-warning indicators, and watch-list procedures.
• Serve as a subject-matter expert and key liaison among Lending, Credit Administration, Special Assets, Loan Operations, and Risk Management on portfolio oversight matters.
• Cross-train and provide back-up support for related credit and portfolio risk functions as needed.
• Perform other duties and special projects as assigned, including support for regulatory exams, internal audits, stress testing, and portfolio analytics.

Skills/Experience/Education

• College degree in business related field and a minimum of 5+ year of commercial underwriting experience.
• Previous credit decision making, and supervision experience preferred.
• Knowledge of Bank’s loan policy.
• Strong computer skills required.
• Must possess excellent verbal and written interpersonal skills.
• Ability to use logic and reasoning to justify decisions.
• Ability to work independently and within a team.
• Ability to perform multi tasks and meet deadlines.
• Reliable, accurate and detailed.
• Ability to work small office equipment.

Essential Mental & Physical Requirements

• Ability to travel if required to perform the essential job functions. 
• Ability to work under stress and meet deadlines.
• Ability to read and interpret a document if required to perform the essential job functions.
• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer may be required.
• Ability to lift/move/carry approximately 15 pounds if required to perform the essential job functions. If the employee is unable to lift/move/carry this weight and can be accommodated without causing the department/division any “undue hardship” then the employee must be accommodated; hence omitting lifting/moving/carrying as a physical requirement.
